JFC.

β€œChatGPT offered assistance to people saying they wanted to carry out violent attacks in 61% of cases, research found, and in 1 case, asked about attacks on synagogues, it gave specific advice about which shrapnel type would be most lethal. Google’s Gemini provided a similar level of detail.”

"People used to be excited about tech, now they dread what data you're going to steal next, they dread what violation of privacy or the environment will turn up next."

this whole missive will make you want to stand on your desk and yell "O CAPTAIN, MY CAPTAIN!," but that bit really got me good

A developer in California was ordered to return land to three local tribes by the California Coastal Commission. The developer ignored planning and environmental regulations to build a coastal residence. The site sits on a historic village of the Wiyot Tribe.

We're nearly at corps monetizing "buy this new story from Stephen King!" And it's an AI agent story. If an author wants to license that, fine. But selling fan fiction is still technically illegal. Do coaching from public domain authors. Fine. But we'e living hand to mouth out here, and I'm tired

I'm so curious to see how this plays out. The US military experts are of course correct.

The Iranian military doesn't only want to attack oil tankers. The Iranian military attacks oil tankers to lure the US military ships into the straits.

Ideally, they want a carrier.

Yes, they can sink it.

Looks like the management team at @thetriibe.com is pulling a nasty one and deciding to *fire people* instead of voluntarily recognizing the union.

There's an easy path there smh, moving anti-union like in a Trump admin is travay ki vreman dezagreyab (very nasty work)

If literally everyone on earth to agreed to pretend everything before 1940 was in black and white, kids born today on would believe it. But we don't do cool things like this, instead we have unnecessary wars.

Once on a panel for a professional conference, someone asked me if technology gives me hope for access.

I said let’s get ramps on every building first, and the tech bro manager was PISSED. People want to believe that they invented the answer to systemic issues…without understanding the issues.

worth remembering, David Lynch directed β€œfix your hearts or die” specifically at transphobes. it wasn’t a generic β€œno mean people allowed” statement, it was said by his Twin Peaks character in defense of a trans woman he cared for and deeply respected.

I appreciate that this thread explains why unions matter when it comes to contract enforcement. Suing for breach of contract is painful and expensive and most of us can’t afford to do it on our own!

Harriet Tubman didn’t just dream of freedom, she selflessly led others towards it. More than one hundred years after her passing, we honor her legacy and tell the story of her unmatched bravery.

I think this story is a really good example for people to look at when it comes to understanding bias at NYT. It's not that the reporter, Dana Rubinstein, says anything outright false. But the framing, word choices, etc., add up to an unprofessional and biased account.

Grammarly declined my request to interview CEO Shishir Mehrotra today. But it told me that in response to criticisms, it will allow experts to opt out of the feature by emailing expertoptout@superhuman.com.

The company gave me this statement over email:

We’ve heard the feedback about this tool and appreciate the engagement from those who have taken the time to raise thoughtful questions about the functionality and the experts surfaced. We agree that the product experience can be improved for both users and experts. The agent was designed to help users discover influential perspectives and scholarship that add value to their work. We want the people behind those perspectives to have greater control over whether their name is used, while providing new ways for influential voices to reach new audiences. Our goal is to improve Expert Review to deliver this outcome.
