Yeah… that’s going to be a challenge. Especially w/ most of my ss coming to APUSH after WHAP.

Also, I’ve seen a rise in STEM focused kids who only really care about the Score & don’t really have interest in engaging w the content.

But I’m going to try and change the paradigm a bit so we’ll see 🤷‍♂️

There was a time when teaching to structure of a formal DBQ did help my ss learn to be better writers… but as with everything in ed, as the cohorts change the efficacy of the instructional tools change.

Now my ss need something diff. It’ll be interesting to see what buy-in I can create.

I want to lean into voice and story as writing objectives in APUSH. I think it will help students be better about contextualizing and organizing a coherent narrative rather than discrete paras.

I’ve just got to figure how to do that and still give students a shot at points on the exam 🤷‍♂️

I’ve read that one as well, but need to go back to it this summer as I revamp.

I recently came to the conclusion that the DBQ format (which was always flawed) is really pushing students to write like AI. I don’t want to do that anymore…

Seriously, tho… this book is outstanding. I’m thinking about how to revamp some of my APUSH writing instruction and I’m getting a good conceptual framework to think about from this book. 👍👍

We've made some comments re underplaying of racial issues in Troop Zero, but I think the movie is somewhat accurate as to the class issues in a small working class rural Southern town. The white/black divide could get more fungible in certain smaller communites. Doesn't disappear, but fades. #HATM

I loved the story that stamp cards in library books used to tell... I used to wonder about the older stamps. Who were they, why did they check out the book? What did they get from it? Did we find the same things in the book? #HATM
