A spoonbill in flight

In my newsletter, I wrote about The Spoonbill Club--a series of birding trips that I started for Bay Area folks with long-COVID and related energy-limiting illnesses.

We've done 2 small pilots that I think worked well. Here's more on the intention & planning: buttondown.email/edyong209/ar...

I think you need to add to "Fucking Jeremy" sticker description: "89% of all profits from this sticker will go towards a satellite tracking system for Jeremy. Or at least a fuck-buddy."

The Incredible, True Story of Jeremy Tortoise's Day Off (of Blue Heron Farm): the character-driven saga* that gripped the world! Mystery! Drama! SEX! and a (literal) feel-good ending.

(* Not a real saga. More like a roller-coaster of a short story. Plus it did not involve Vikings. Probably.)

Could help fund the satellite tracker for him.

When facing the "All we need is STEM!" approach to education, my usual response is: Developing the vaccine was the STEM problem; distribution & getting shots in arms was the Social Science problem; getting people to trust it & combatting misinformation was the Humanities problem-- which did we fail?

The 2 pots I use most are stacked on the back of the stove on the right; the 2 skillets I use are stacked on the left.
Gotta make things work for you. Hack Your World.

Biden made the remarks in a Sunday broadcast of 60 Minutes. "We still have a problem with COVID. We're still doing a lot of work on it. But the pandemic is over," he said. "If you notice, no one's wearing masks. Everybody seems to be in pretty good shape. And so I think it's changing."

Biden tests negative for COVID, will wear mask when close to others, White House says

Biden in 2022: "The pandemic is over because no one's wearing masks"

Biden in 2023: "will be masking while indoors and around people"

The pandemic is not over. Leaders should tell people to take precautions (just as they are) to prevent potentially harmful COVID reinfections.

More amazing work by Lia Pas. The embroidery work is terrific. The expression of the subject matter is incredible.

Ugh. I see how bad the temps are there.
I know high temps make my symptoms worse.
Just thinking of you.

(And thanks for the info about Tarrio sentencing! Glad to see him going away for a big while.)

Enrique Tarrio sentenced to 22 years in prison. The longest sentence yet in all J6 prosecutions.

Clearly this mug is a misprint: a comma is missing.

Happened to me. Once my health became bad enough that I 'was no longer fun' & he needed to take over my previous responsibilities, he walked away, leaving me with zero income, the mortgage and bills. Nothing to do with $ for him.
Took 4 years of legal fighting to get even minimal alimony.

I can totally relate! Days like that I am tempted to yell to release all of that energy! But I don't want to alarm my neighbors. And also am afraid even that would be "too much" activity.

You can do it. Just like another said: you've done it before so you know you can do it again.
Humaning is hard.

A good friend said this to me and it helped me feel finally ok asking for help (from her and others).
It's a powerful thing to say out loud to someone.

Every space where a majority of people mask makes that space more accessible to everyone, especially higher risk people. Everyone has the right to access essential spaces like healthcare and public transport safely, even if COVID is spreading elsewhere.

Not a great day. GI system did not get the memo that today I have Things To Do.
I kept waiting to see if I'd feel better after morning meds and a little food. Big Nope.

Argh. Back to bed with meds and something brainless to stream and fall asleep to.

So glad you had at least some relief!
It does feel miraculous when it happens.

Bummer (to say the least) about the migraine.

A good fantasy for some; a nightmare for others. (Count me in the "good fantasy" camp, including the fantasy that I'd no longer be wildly allergic to cats.)

Thanks! :-D
Took me a long while to realize (accept?) that is really how it goes for me. It's super common -- more common than the "all or nothing" scenario that movies and popular culture (in the US, anyway) has bombarded us with.

Have wanted to know more about the WHO 'recipe'. I also appreciate the info in there about creating your own.
