Threads & Instagram are where I get the most engagement. I'm still on Twitter/X too, but engagement there is low, possibly because I'm not doing the things necessary to charm the algorithm. But if I tried to optimize my activity on all platforms it would be a full time job ๐Ÿ˜„

I try to stay active here, even though I don't get much engagement.

There's always some good things that get left behind when we move into a new era ๐Ÿ˜„ Some of the old plot elements, not so much, but the high-level hand painted illustrations, for sure!

Stepback for
Fairest Of Them All, by Theresa Medeiros
Bantam, 1995
Illustrated by Pino Daeni

This is set during the Middle Ages

Historical romance is currently on the outs, sadly, but if you enjoy it, what do you think of this era as a romance setting?

A lenticular cover! There are at least two other vintage romances that I know of with lenticular covers -- one featuring time travel & the other I'm not sure, but it has a giant disappearing orchid on the cover ๐Ÿ˜‚

Everlastin', by Mickee Madden
Pinnacle, 1995
Illustrator unknown (at least by me)

I feel like the woman disguised as a boy trope was a relatively common thing in historical romance back in the day - am I right? When did it stop being a thing? What are some other titles that have this trope?

Callista, by Cordia Byers
Fawcett, 1983
Illustrated by James Griffin

I don't know much about The Sheik, but I believe Rebecca Romney included it in her collection The Romance Novel In English, which was purchased by the Lily Library. I remember Rebecca Bauman posted about this book once, too. It was quite shocking & exciting for its time

A picture of the book "The Best of All-Story Love 1929" on a pink background. The cover represents a man in a rowboat pulling a woman from a river.

This arrived just in time for Valentine's Day. I haven't been this excited for a book in a good long while and the introduction alone has got me hooked. @lucynka.bsky.social

For reasons I don't know, this romance is scarce on the secondary market:

I'm a little cranky over the used bookstore corner snip. If they must mark for no return, the small hole punch is preferable
