I just want to highlight that a public official, like a police chief, who sends a letter on police letterhead to members of public bodies should probably, as a matter of basic professionalism, conduct themselves as if the correspondence will eventually become public. Maybe my standards are too high.
This entire nuisance case is estimated to have wasted around 200 hours of docketed counsel time and likely cost “$28,000 to $48,000” in legal fees and disbursements for the City. 👍
This lawyer lowballing the City after NNFP tried to abandon the application without cost is so funny once you learn that this guy cost this group over $80k in legal fees.
This report also contradicts Sarah McNeilly’s published claim that NNFP was going to “step aside” after learning the Brock Mission’s $20 million in funding was at risk. Awesome.
This report brings a TON of details into light, namely the strategy behind Northcrest Neighbours For Fair Process’ public outreach and the true extent of NNFP’s financial situation:
Actually everything is mandatory under CSPA, including intimidating elected officials into doing what I want /j
This report is the first time we’ve seen an extended “apology” from him after months of radio silence and he’s STILL justifying it despite expressing remorse over and over
Oh, to be me a week ago before the IC exonerated the Mayor of Peterborough from saying a racial slur because our council’s code of conduct [checks notes] doesn’t count for one-time incidents
The premise alone of having a municipal council vote on whether or not to implement IC recommendations is absolutely ridiculous, especially when there is ALWAYS a power imbalance between a complainant and an offender.
It’s almost like if you task councillors to enforce codes of conduct on themselves or people they like, they probably won’t do it!
Why would he put words in its mouth like that
Dudes will declare bankruptcy then sit around in their mansion, looking longingly at a Labubu
I’m a big Defector puzzle guy but some of these NYT shenanigans are becoming unbearable
I’m only mad because I’d be pilloried for an answer like this. I’d never hear the end of it if I included baby’s first words in a crossword, but the baby geniuses at the New York Times can write some shit like “pee pee” and be considered a LEGITIMATE INSTITUTION of PUZZLEMAKING
“BELLY, INFORMALLY” ?????? BELLY INFORMALLY ?????????
Now that the customary week-long statute on posting answers to NYT puzzles is up, what the fuck was this?
SIREG has also gone to Ontario Landlord/Tenant Board over multiple issues with disrepair and mould in a couple of units as well as rent in arrears: www.canlii.org#search/index...
This actually speaks to a broader pattern of this company buying up market housing stock that is considerable affordable/below market rate then converting it to condos. SIREG got some heat for this in Brockville as well: www.recorder.ca/news/brockvi...
This is actually true! SIREG Holdings went to Ontario Land Tribunal with the City of North Bay over a denial on a similar basis of unaffordability, but North Bay city staff did recommend the conversion, so OLT ruled in SIREG’s favour: www.canlii.org/en/on/onlt/d...
Thank you so much for your service, Jeff.
Giving myself the works really put my editing style in perspective (I am the world’s biggest hard-ass on clauses)
I’m a big believer in self-editing, but I was editing my own work under the tired guise it was someone else’s and leaving comments like “Let’s switch up sentence structure” and “Rephrase: this sounds wonky”
During our first big copy backlog of the year, I woke up early to get some work done and found myself suggesting edits on an essay I’d written for class.

Everyone is getting upset about the data centers. They pollute a lot and use a lot of energy and will eventually be very ugly/huge vacant buildings. And I understand being mad about that. Until you consider the state of the lazer tag industry at this moment, and how much help that sector needs.
Canada made weird tv shows because it was all being done with government funded art grant money so they fell in this wacky middle ground between “shoestring budget” and “no expectation to generate shareholder value” which is really the best way to make art
History is currently absolving me
I CANNOT let Arthur readers know that I was once a part of Left Twitter or else they’ll find out where I’ve lifted all my jokes from.
