Simple in concept, flawless in execution. The amount of interactions @playables.net squeeze out of one (1) mechanic game design genius.
That itβs also a meditation on the fleetingness of life, featuring comedy as well as social critique is just enough to make your jaw drop.
I waited for some downtime to play Time Flies (timeflies.buzz) and I'm glad I did. It's a quietly amazing thingβcharming, clever, tender, and funny, and that's all before the final act hits you unexpectedly in the gut. A game that makes me want to make games, and my favorite in a long time.

I drew way too many fonts for the game Time Flies. Guess how many! Eleven! 11 different fonts. One for the title (I made this one for a Playdate project originally), also in a bold variant.Then one for normal text (we used this the most) with a fat variant. After that, a font for small text and one for even smaller text. All these also include ΠΠΈΡΠΈΠ»Π»ΠΈΡΠ° (Cyrillic). So these are, 1, 2, 3, 4, 5, 6 type-faces. 7 more to go: Number 7 is a font used for text in a book that the fly could reveal by walking over. Number 8 is the variant before it is revealed: This one you can't really read, dorry. Number 8 is not really readable by design.
Font faces nine, ten and eleven we have not used in the final game. I created them for ideas during prototyping that we eventually abandonded. ;-( Number nine was for small dynamic text in a newspaper lying on the floor. Number ten is called Teacher.It was designed for collectable life-affirming quotes we eventually replaced with puzzle pieces. And number eleven, called Student, is a second version of number ten that looks less neat. That's it! Eleven fucking typefaces made over the course of 5 years.

I enjoyed cooking books for my Poket Boss, the new minimalist masterpiece by @mariov.ch / playables.
It's a game in which you stoke flaccid growth charts and sculpt data like clay, and I honestly can't think of a more relevant concept for 2025.

This game has exceptionally good sound design. Ultra tactile and so responsive. Makes you forget that someone had to design this behaviour, that these aren't just physical objects that naturally make these sounds as you manipulate them.
This was great. Funnily enough, I felt like I was interacting with my boss from Day Repeat Day again.

I've kept an eye out for this game since its announcement. It mixes two things that are part of my "day to day", games and data viz.
It's was a bite-sized enjoyable experience. I'd say, play it on your phone for the best experience. Its well worth a try.
