@garbageday.email hit the nail on the head with this one!

If the comparing Meta Ray-Bans to a Cybertruck doesn't send the message it needs to about how these mass surveillance tools are a terrible idea, then what will actually get through to you?

The @garbageday.email has talked a lot about how this is a content-driven administration. Policy by posting. Polling by likes.

So to see the main content creator of ICE/CBP not only get fired but get his posting privileges revoked (lol) is proof that they are losing on the policy and the humanity.

I posted a while ago that I caved and asked ChatGPT for help and it was actually really helpful. But I realized that it made me think it was helping by using the right language and getting me close but in the end I had nothing useful. @garbageday.email aptly calls it "edging". tinyurl.com/y73a3s89

I can’t speak for everyone, but my mind tends to treat writing an article, making a video, writing a song, cooking a meal, drawing an image, and, apparently, designing software the same way. It’s not a matter of just β€œgenerating” something perfect from my head, but exploring the tension that exists between what I’m imagining and the limitations of my stupid meat body. That’s actually the exciting part. It also lets me figure out if something has turned out wrong or just resulted in a happy accident. (The following is highlighted for emphasis) Vibe coding, like every new trend coming out of Silicon Valley, turns this process β€” the entire act of creativity, itself β€” into a slot machine. One more pull on the AI and maybe it will figure it out for you. You won’t understand how any of it works, of course, or feel particularly proud of what you’ve done, but maybe you’ll have something. Just a few more dollars for some more tokens. C’mon, just pay a bit more.

This is an incredibly dark read from @garbageday.email…the on the ground reporting is appreciated and there is so much to be concerned about with ICE’s actions in Minneapolis & what they prefigure nationally.

Excellent (if depressing) post covering the new reality we're in from @garbageday.email/@ryanhatesthis.bsky.social: "I can’t help but wonder what a protest can even accomplish when those in power do not think they will ever have to lose that power....The lesson here is clear: We’re on our own now."

Beyond the discourse, though, it also convinced a lot more people to play the game. Data from SteamCharts shows that after the awards, the game’s concurrent player count went from a daily average of 14,000 to 45,000 within a few days. Sales estimates from SteamDB show that the week after the awards, Expedition 33 went from Steam’s 12th best-selling non-free game to number two, behind Arc Raiders.

This is exactly what awards are supposed to do. Whether or not you think Expedition 33 counts as an indie game, The Game Awards are accomplishing their most basic goal of giving attention and distinction to their winners. This wasn’t always the case β€” from the records we can find, there wasn’t any comparable bump back when the awards were called the Spike TV VGAs.

Today's @garbageday.email (which is glorious) is about Gen Z's nostalgia for the millennial era. But every generation goes through this. Millennials cringed in horror at their depiction in Girls; Gen Xers cringed the same way at Reality Bites. ("It feels weird to be so marketed to," a friend said.)
