Μην πω για το θεοκρατικό καθεστώς που παπαγαλίζουν διάφορα φερέφωνα τα ακούμε απ τα κανάλια... Αυτό δημόσια... και έχουν το θράσος κάποιοι αμόρφωτοι να μιλούν για θεοκρατικά καθεστώτα για να καλύψουν τους πραγματικούς λόγους του πολέμου.

In the West, certain voices are mourning, mostly the same ones that ignored the massacres of Iranians for months and years, only to express "concern" now, when Iranians themselves are celebrating.

I disagree with Monbiot's absolute statement that the current situation will be worse. For Iranians it appears to feel like their main hope for a regime change.

I completely agree. I will just add that many democrats have connections to NIAC (effectively a pro-regime lobby founded by Trita Parsi), while other republicans (e.g. Pompeo, Pence) have ties with MEK, which is why they were generally not seen as a potential help for Iranians.

Indeed, they are not mutually exclusive.
But let me put it differently: given how events have unfolded, it is reasonable to criticise Trump's actions while still acknowledging the suffering of Iranians and hoping that the Islamic republic regime will ultimately fall (instead of supporting it).

It feels similar for many Iranians today, doesn't it? It's not that they fail to understand the legal/moral issues involved; rather, their desperation under a regime that kills them has led many to celebrate what happened today, especially after seeing how often their pleas have been ignored.
