The Michigan Public Service Commission recently approved terms of service between Consumers Energy and very large customers (data centers), to protect citizens from subsidizing data centers. Thanks to the advocacy groups that made sure some protections were created. www.michigan.gov/mpsc/commiss...
Michigan Third Act members - Join us via Zoom on Monday, July 21, from 6:00-7:00 PM for our monthly statewide meeting. You will have received an email with the link. On the agenda: Sun Day activities throughout the state; and Clean Water Action on “Michiganders for Money out of Politics (MMOP)”.
If you have the time, please contact your representatives in DC to express your opinion on this legislation. The vote will be narrow and there's room to act.
Reading Bill McKibben's musings on the President's signature legislation, I was dismayed to learn that not only are credits for clean energy and jobs being removed... the bill includes new taxes on solar and wind, expected to cost households $110 more per year. Oh - it adds subsidies for coal, too.
Just for starters... Enbridge is asking to discharge 5 million gallons of wastewater into Lake Michigan every day that the tunnel is being constructed. Blasting into bedrock isn't clean.
I want to encourage everyone who loves the Great Lakes to tell Governor Whitmer how you feel about Enbridge's proposal to blast an oil tunnel underneath the Straits of Mackinaw.
