It's lighter than both of them while still capable of being lossless (just checked, got a pic whose size got divided by 6)
For websites like Bluesky who got a *lot* of images to deal with, it makes perfect sense to use it
Computer knower here, renaming them does absolutely nothing but change the file association in Windows, the file is still the exact same underneath
There's a good chance that if it works, you could've just added the file association by hand and opened it that way
