I want all of my trans family to outlive these fucks. Please don't let them take away your beautiful voices from this world. Sometimes spite is the motivation that works best, stay here, every single one of us living and breathing is spitting in a fascist's eye.

Yes the world's gone to hell in a handbasket but there're also people who camp out near kākāpō nests doing nightly checks on tiny little chicks.

Exciting times on Anchor Island as we check #kakapo nests for hatching. We’re letting eggs hatch in nests to reduce management intensity. Last night I found these two newly-hatched chicks in Konini’s nest, along with a fertile egg I carried back under a lunar eclipse. #kakapo2026 #conservation

Don’t know if this still works, but when I used to get confused about news stories, I’d check Newsround.

reminder another reason to do alt text is that the same good alt text also helps people who don't know the same cultural references as you look stuff up. what show is that? who is that actor? what's happening in that scene? people are here from different generations, countries, interest circles etc!

I always had it, but I always had to have a portable drive or a NAS connected, and they each can be annoying in their own ways.

The other day I moved my ~2TB Final Cut Pro library to an external SSD, and now that I have some space for it, I’m moving my [the app formerly known as] iTunes music library onto my Mac’s internal drive for the first time in probably more than 20 years.

I suppose nobody is walking around a park all the time, so on average it’s going to get actual steadiness.

The top half of the Seattle Space Needle against a foggy night sky. The top spire has strings of lights going down to the wider part below it, making a cone of light. The fog scatters the light so there’s a kind of glowing halo around the cone.

Here’s a picture I took of the Space Needle a few months ago when it had some holiday lights. I think the lights glowing in the fog makes it look like an Olympic torch.

It makes me wonder what it must be like for people with high walking steadiness. Are you just out there walking down lumpy, swaying stairs without handrails in tall grass while carrying six brimming hot drinks, using a MacBook Pro as a tea tray, like it’s nothing?

Every so often my Apple Watch tells me I have low or very low walking steadiness. But I walk around a fair bit and don’t feel like I’m in imminent danger of falling β€” at least not on smooth ground. It doesn’t feel like a risk to get up.

I was just reading about the period known as Romantik in German and for about a page I wasn’t sure if it was the Romantic period or Ancient Rome (Rome antique.) It was the former, but in French those two terms are really close.

NZ shorebird and seabird thread.

I'm going to go ahead and post some shots before carefully editing and sorting; I'm already falling hopelessly behind.

Let's start with a variable oystercatcher chick and parent. πŸͺΆ

Well, we’ve been invited to watch the Superb Owl with a friend on Sunday. I don’t think I’ve ever seen more than a few seconds of American football, so I may as well start big. I wonder if there’ll be any good ads.
