you have more in common with a homeless person than *any* member of the gentry. remember that and don't forget it -- class issues and disparities affect movements far, far more than we talk about, particularly within marginalized groups.

it's almost like there's a reason why we tell you over and over that putting an extreme negative focus on a trans woman on the internet with a massive platform will inevitably lead to violent abuse.

By now, you've probably heard that some anti-trans Dems lost in last week's N.C. primaries.

While this is good news, there's a lot of context that much of the coverage is missing. TNN's David Forbes has a fuller picture of what's going on, and what trans communities in the state are up against.

I listened to this in full and, yeah, not surprisingly it's as bad as trans folks are saying.

These issues impact all trans women, but they always hit trans women of color the hardest.

Liberation requires absolute solidarity across all lines of oppression.

Every single day, Black trans women across the world are suffering from acts of violent racism and transmisogyny.

From sex work on the streets to v-coding in prisons, marginalized trans women live in a society constructed to maime and kill people who don't fit the mold of white supremacy.

This applies to many of the evils trans communities face. The far-right believes they can target us — and liberals believe they can go along with it — because they do not believe they'll face real, harsh consequences for doing so.

Redeeming them isn't the point, stopping them is.

If you flinch at that, ask yourself why you've been so thoroughly conditioned that terrible people facing any real consequences for their actions is beyond the pale.

How much are the rest of us supposed to take?

Look "sure their views are repulsively bigoted, costing literal lives, but saying they're bad people won't accomplish anything..." was tried, at length. It got us here.

Shame, fear and anger — properly wielded — are very effective. And, yes, those who choose evil repeatedly are bad people.

Also, a reminder that "a seat at the table" usually just means a trans person making excuses for transphobic policy decisions instead of a cis one.

Applies extra when it comes to politicians turning coat on trans rights, and those excusing them.

From long experience in N.C., I like to remind folks of the following lessons from fighting our enemies: be relentless, be uncompromising, attack their money and put not your faith in politicians.

Again, the removal of three awful bigots is a good thing. But we've got a bad history of natl media declaring victory in NC, then turning elsewhere. It's cost us badly.

Amount of people against quisling Dems is promising — as a sign of pro-trans support that could be mobilized outside elections...

Obviously, Josh Stein is in the governor's mansion for awhile. So there's a substantial faction of NC Dems who are fine with anti-trans laws, just rolled out a bit more slowly and with less fanfare. Historically the party as a whole's been fine with that too (e.g. the fake repeal of HB2)...

Two anti-trans laws passed in NC last year. HB805 was a slew of anti-trans measures on everything from documents to state healthcare. Vetoed, but overriden due to Majeed's support.

But SB442, sanctioning abuse of trans kids, passed with *nine* Dems in support. Democratic Gov. Stein signed it...

Some background: I've lived in NC all my life. I've covered politics here for 20+ years. I was in the trenches during the fight against HB2.

When the chips are down, NC Dems — including ones who run as vocal allies — have a long, long history of treating queer and trans rights as expendable.
