Yikes π¬ I hope they look after you well and it's over quickly
The honesty about disagreements and challenges seems so important to me. This actually builds trust in the long term in my opinion. Thank you for standing and sharing your approach.
Post a pic you took, no context, to bring some zen to the feed.
The little pockets of space we used to have in the NHS have been gradually redefined as 'waste'. Space to respond well to a dynamic context; space to have MDTs to support good care; space for listening & to hear how everyone's doing.
It is not better for everything & everyone to be completely full.

"The big compromises in education arenβt in the interests of those who find learning hardest... this leaves space for very many to have a poor time and a minority to have dreadful experiences."
This by @bennewmark.bsky.social from 2023 seems very relevant to the discussion on SEND reform.
I teach in a uni. I'd say the link between breadth of curriculum at GCSE and A-level becomes a lot less relevant at degree level because the courses become so diverse. If you have the right subject *skills* that's likely to become more important. Disclaimer: that's not universal of course!
Very much looking forward to your analysis @samfr.bsky.social
I'm in the Guardian today, writing about the question of overdiagnosis of mental illness. I argue we need to stop seeing this as a binary yes/no question - is overdiagnosis happening or is the increase real? - and acknowledge that multiple things can be happening at once

"The goodwill of staff, which translates into assumptions about people working unpaid hours, must not be normalised by workforce planners."
In this Editor's Choice @kamranabbasi.bsky.social asks: how long can the NHS run on unpaid overtime?

I don't usually have a clue on the morning stretch but this was my guess today as well!
This book made a significant impression on me too. The system seems deeply flawed in a lot of ways.
If you liked this experiment, I published a full piece today in the same vein: a text that gets 100 years older with every section, from a modern blog post to a medieval chronicle.
It's a single story spanning 1000 years of English. See how far you get.

... I was granted some small amount of flexibility to help me balance work and home life. As that was eroded, I became steadily less inclined to give free hours back to an organisation that did not seem to trust me. They wanted my flexibility but wouldn't return it.
"Historically, such assumptions were based on an implicit, continuing level of unpaid hours."
It seems wild to me that workforce planning in the NHS leans so heavily on unpaid hours.
For what it's worth, my NHS experience: I was much more willing to undertake unpaid extra hours when [cont.]

A book cover: The Heart's Time by Janet Morley (a poem a day for Lent and Easter) The illustration is a painting of a tulip with petals that are about to fall.
I'll be interested to know what you think of this. I've used a similar one previously and I loved discovering new poems and learning more about familiar ones. I haven't decided whether to revisit the book again this Lent or try something different from my bookshelf.
A hand holding a plate. The plate is cream in colour with colourful writing round the edge which reads "Dreaming of a brighter world" in the distinctive Emma Bridgewater font. The plate has a folded pancake (British style) which has been drizzled with a dark caramel sauce.
Partly inspired by @stpguy3.bsky.social I discovered yesterday that left-over sticky toffee pudding sauce makes a great pancake topping. Would certainly recommend.

Dear @lizgloyn.bsky.social, thank you for sharing this poem which captures perfectly much of my own pandemic experience. My heart breaks for all the important, unrecoverable experiences our children and young people missed. But seeing my uni on the class action list did make me shed a few tears.

Oooh, I'd been wondering what it was like since you said you'd ordered it. Very nice π
Some what ridiculously, I used a piping bag and a very wide nozzle. Not something I'd usually spend time on, but the idea just came to me yesterday and I decided I'd try it. Very pleasing π
Mashed potato piped in rosettes on a cottage pie. The edges are brown and golden as the pie is hot from the oven.
A clump of snowdrops in spring sunshine
A nice, lazy day. Things that pleased me include doing fancy mash potato on top of the cottage pie and a walk in the sunshine featuring lots of snowdrops.

As an aside, what is your take on these reports Andrea? Some I've reviewed (in my niche areas of expertise) include recommendations that lack relevant background knowledge. They risk making things worse not better if implemented without critical evaluation. Hopefully this is taken into account?
