Media & police commonly report that “speed wasn’t a factor in a crash.” What they mean is the driver wasn’t technically breaking the speed limit, or at least not too much.
But speed is ALWAYS a factor, in how much distance is needed to stop, how well crash victims can be seen, and whether they die.
LUCKY 13th!

A two panel comic of Loki from A Bad God's Guide to Being Good. In the first panel he's looking breezy and innocent and holding up a book. He's saying, "I think it's great that children read prose novels." In the second panel, he's looking more mischievous and saying, "It's a perfectly GATEWAY to comics."
Let's kill "comics are a gateway to reading" dead please?
A very happy peperoni pizza with a mozzarella nose and black olive eyes and mouth.
My son made this in his cooking class in school today and now I want Mr Pizza Face to be the MC in my next children’s story.
Yeah, I have books on my shelves where the bookmark hasn’t moved for many years. One day, I may go back, possibly.
It’s definitely not a failure. It’s strength of character to know your time is worth more than that book.
I only do it when I’m not enjoying a book. If it starts to feel like a chore or I find my mind is wandering while I’m reading, I’ll give up on it.
Once I properly woke up to the fact I won’t have enough time left in my life to read everything I want to, it made DNF’ing easier.
in the time of death sometimes you just need to pacclabmech
This is something I’ve had to work very hard at. I will DNF now, but I still hate doing it.
Oh, the stress of the looming library return date. I get this a lot. My eyes are always bigger than my reading speed!
This is currently sitting at the bottom of my library book stack. Perhaps I’ll move it to the top.
Mine, too.
I felt like that when I read it. It’s a strange little story, not exactly epic, but I enjoyed it.
white circle in a blue background and the words "It's Monday! What are you reading?" in the circle
It's Monday again and today I'm reading "The Dark Lord's Guide to Dating" by Tiffany Hunt
What book(s) are you reading this week?

The audiobook Landmarks by Robert MacFarlane. Cover design is simplistic blue trees and bulrushes framing a view over water with hills in the distance.
Good morning, Stephen. I’m kicking off this week with a misty country walk with my sister. So, how serendipitous that my audio book this week is a Robert MacFarlane.
Research question. March 2020. What video filters were available on Zoom?
Loved it. Can’t believe it was 30 years ago.
You’re a day younger than you thought 🥳
🥳
Oh, and the sun shone for half a day this week. That was a nice surprise.
This sounds tres haut ma rue!
Reform are denying me access to the Welsh manifesto launch...
Remember a few weeks ago when Reform UK threatened to defund Bangor University in the name of "free speech"?
Well despite repeated requests, Reform are not allowing me to attend their manifesto launch.

Harper stern from Industry striding along a London street wearing slightly 80s business attire. And boy does she look like she means business. She's wearing shades. She has secrets. She has plans. She's going to rule the world if she doesn't crash and burn.
It's friday! Time for the weekely good news thread! What's YOUR good news from the week? What's made you smile. (A rare non smiling pic from me because Harper in this scene makes ME smile)
The audiobook cover of Ben Aaronovitch’s Stone and Sky. Cover art is a stylised, white on blue line drawing of the Scottish coastline around Aberdeen. The sea is blue material with Scottish flag just visible, with an oil rig, a whale and a ship being attacked by a giant squid.
Having initially been told by BorrowBox I'd have to wait until December to listen to Ben Aaronovitch's latest Rivers of London novel, it arrived early, so I'm listening to it now. It's taken a different turn with Abigail voicing chunks of it. It has more of a YA feel about it. It's making me smile.
