Korbessa never met a guinea fowl she didn't want to chase. A throwback to her neonate days – ears flared, trunk raised, charging with wholehearted determination.

May we all carry such enthusiasm into 2026.

Happy New Year from all of us at the Sheldrick Wildlife Trust.

As a newborn, Lemeki was swept away in flood waters. Seven years on, the girl who once demanded all the attention is now giving it to those who need it most – trunk hugging babies, standing guard, shielding the little ones from bullies.

The wiggly thing on his face? Nsimba is still working it out. It flops. It swings. Sometimes it cooperates. Mostly it doesn't.

His mum Naipoki fell into a well twice as an infant. We raised her – and now she's brought her baby to meet us.

A day in the life of an infant orphan elephant is filled with milk bottles, cuddles, mudbaths and games. Why? Because decades of raising elephants has revealed an orphan's psychological health is as important as their physical needs.

Learn how we raise these babies: sheldrickwildlifetrust.org/n...

’Twas the night before Christmas, when all through the house not a creature was stirring, not even… an elephant! Thanks to our supporters, Kenya’s orphaned elephants always have a place to call home. We want to thank you for supporting our conservation work – this year and always.

Kipekee arrived at our Nairobi Nursery as a fragile newborn. Today, this tiny-but-mighty girl knows she has everyone wrapped around her little trunk – and wouldn't have it any other way.

Gift her adoption and help give Kipekee the family and wild future she deserves: swt.bio/kipekee

Wild-born calves Zigi and Lenny are already practising their wrestling moves. Sulwe, the only girl in the pileup, holds her own – never far from the action. They're only here because we rescued their mothers, orphans themselves, many years ago. Meet our grandcalves:

Mwinzi, Natibu, Toto, and Korbessa arrived as fragile newborns. Today, they explore the Tsavo bush together, test their Keepers' patience, and grow stronger by the week. Gift an adoption this holiday – your recipient follows their journey from the very beginning.

Pips Then, our SWT/KWS Canine Unit was on a training patrol when they came across the young giraffe, still on her own. Using their tracking skills, they covertly monitored her for the morning to ascertain if her mother was nearby. To absolutely confirm her situation, Taru Carr-Hartley then flew the helicopter overhead and found no other giraffe in the area. (We later discovered the body of an adult female giraffe who had been killed by lions. This must have been the orphan's mother.)The young orphan was already on borrowed time β€” it was a miracle that she hadn't been killed by lions herself. We had to rescue her before she disappeared again. However, it was a real mission: she was dizzyingly quick, determined to evade us, and the perfect size and colour to camouflage herself.

We rescued Pips three months ago, after her mother was likely killed by lions. She’s a plucky little girl who miraculously managed to escape the same fate – but by the time we found her, she was running on her very last reserves. Gift the adoption of Pips (β€œPipsi” to her Keepers!): swt.bio/pips

Two years ago, a one-day-old rhino was found alone in Tsavo. His mother never appeared.

Today, Chamboi is a healthy two-year-old. Black rhinos are critically endangered, and he has years ahead before he can reclaim his place in the wild. Until then, he has us – and you: swt.bio/chamboi

Kaikai and Keeper Joseph were walking in November when she stopped, lifted her tiny trunk, and smelled the wind – turning her head to and fro. Sure enough, Joseph heard wild elephants moving, just out of sight. She's only months old. But already, she's looking out for her family: set.bio/kaikai

Our #throwback video is typical Toto: fun-loving, active and playful – on land. Water is another matter. He often refuses the mud bath entirely, or ventures only a toe. Interestingly, Vaarti shares the same reluctance – and both were rescued in remarkably similar circumstances: swt.bio/toto

Analysis | Supersized data centers are coming. See how they will transform America. These AI campuses consume more power than major U.S. cities. Their footprints are measured in miles, not feet.

One data center campus in Pennsylvania will use as much power as the entire city of Philadelphia.
