The talk by @marlene.bsky.social was recorded.
For the global south, I think there is huge opportunity to innovate with SLMs and open weight models. With the correct engineering these models can produce the same outputs as expensive ones. The gap I see is education and accessibility. AI could be a potential equalizer depending on how you see it
This is a great question. I think there are smarter people than me discussing the ethics of AI especially to do with energy. I know MSFT made a commitment to offset the costs of the data centers with renewable energy and subsidizing energy costs for communities they are in.

Hi Sean, thanks for listening and reading! Iβve gone back and forth in my head about bluesky because in the past it wasnβt super friendly to AI discussion π I think thatβs changed recently, so I think this is a reminder that maybe I should start post here again
My daughter is killing her first talk!! Iβm so proud right now.
@anthropic.com is investing $1.5 million in the PSF, focused on security. These funds will make an enormous impact on the PSF and the security of millions of #Python and @pypi.org users. Please join us in thanking Anthropic for this landmark gift!

So good Scott!! Really resonating, especially with trying to make things for the joy of it!

Should AI write tests? Does it write good tests? Will that lead to worse software? @brianokken.bsky.social and I debate that and more with live code demos as we pick apart the generated code and discuss the risks and benefits.

This thread π₯Ήβ€οΈ Thank you Naty for always championing the women around you!!
Today is International Women's Day, and I would like to take the chance to celebrate all the women that do amazing work in Open Source projects. I'm closer to the Python and PyData world, but please comment in the thread adding women you'd like to celebrate. Look for awesome women in the threads.
Some GOOD news - remember this young person you all helped raise money for his trip? He made it! www.linkedin.com/posts/ditiro...
For more than 25 years in 3 editions The Quick Python book has helped over 100,000 coders learn Python. That makes me feel old!
To celebrate the release of the 4th edition, my publisher @manningbooks.bsky.social is offering 50% off of all formats with the code PBceder5 through March 17.

Last major update to PEP 751 before I submit it! This last update adds support for extras and dependency groups, so all the pieces should be there for multi-use lock files.
