also its point blank the funniest game I have played and if nothing else that will probably never change
HONORABLE MENTIONS:
Undertale/Deltarune, iSpy Spooky Mansion, Kid Pix 3, Inscryption, Kentucky Route Zero, Half-Life, Nubbys Number Factory, Stanley Parable, SUPERHOT, VVVVVV, 20 Questions Ball
1. If you know me at all you know how important Hypnospace is to my life, even without Dreamsettler this is still my #1. Completely changed my view on diegetic storytelling, some of the most compelling characters Ive seen in anything, and just bursting with creativity and heart and soul and empathy
2. Maybe I'm overrating it because it's the only game on this chart that I'm still actively playing but damn Balatro has had me by the balls for almost three years now. I definitely do wax and wane on playing it but its just such an easy game to get sucked into whenever I do, its drugs and evil ♥️
3. I love my stories in games and I love my puzzles, this shit got both to a tee. Inspired environment design, one of the few games made in the 2010s to be funny on arrival and REMAIN funny, and just amazing puzzles. Some people prefer the rawness of 1 and I get it but 2 is better to me in every way
4. The 2nd game I ever asked for and got (the first being Spore lol), Minecraft absolutely engulfed my teenage years. I basically didnt need any other game, it had everything a growing boy could need. Ill still pop it on every now and then, though nothing beats the pure excitement of those 1.0 days
5. Goes hand in hand with GMod but even moreso, I wasted so many hours in TF2. I would do art commissions so I could get ref for medic cosmetics, it was BAD. Since it was my first FPS I was pretty consistently outclassed in regular matches so I mostly played MvM and fucked around in idle servers
6. Much like my previous Tetris mention I love a good browser game that I can open up whenever on any device and sink endless hours into it, 2048 was absolutely that for a good long while. Don't think I ever got much higher than 4096 but I sure tried, especially during the pandemic
7. Absolute perfect interplay of game and story. I will admit that I cheated on my final trip through Dark Bramble cuz I didnt have a controller and was getting piss-ass scared each time, still an amazing experience of a game but you probably know that already, I dont need to sell Outer Wilds to you
8. it's Tetris, it speaks for itself. Shoutouts to the Tetris N-Blox site specifically though cuz that was my version of choice that got me through high school downtime when I was severely depressed, I just played it again now and almost felt myself getting pulled back in oops
9. I was a kid with my own computer but no money, playing a fuck ton of Garry's Mod was an inevitability. I did my fair share of prophunt/TTT and some DarkRP but my bread and butter was just dicking around in singleplayer maps, spawning 14 father grigoris to make my laptop fan hit 2000 rpms

The second part being evidenced by the fact that Kid Pix 3 and iSpy Spooky Mansion are absolutely in my honorable mentions
I’m also just not much of a gamer in general, I like to look at games and appreciate them but there are very few that I end up playing and even fewer that stick with me
the three categories here are:
1. incredibly told narrative based game that transcends what I thought was possible in video games before playing it
2. first person game that I’ve sunk a million hours into
3. puzzle adjacent game that I’ve sunk a million hours into
This is the effect of a child who had no consoles as a kid and only really started playing non-edutainment games at age 12
