Everything has changed ... except the claims of the fossil fuel lobbyists who infest politics and the media.

So what's the cost to the world economy per hour of Claude Code downtime? Asking for a friend.
So in this new AI-coding world, what do we all do when Claude Code is down (giving 500 errors right now)? Go outside and shovel the snow? Interact with other humans? That's crazy talk.

Great story, David! I have many fond memories of the old Penn Station.
That's excellent! Is your code available anywhere?
I finally figured out how to get daily Arctic sea-ice volume data from PIOMAS (thanks Torstein!).
The graphic below shows daily sea-ice volume since Jan. 1, 1979. So far, 2026 is tracking the previous record low, set in 2017.
Will we see a new record low maximum? Stay tuned!
It's free (for all reasonable use) and yes, I made it with AI code assistance. But all code is carefully reviewed and security-audited.
As a long-time traveler, I used to always forget one or two things. I started using packing-list apps years ago, never found one that worked the way I like. Simple, flexible, with sub-containers, on all your devices, open source. So I finally made my own. Try it out! packzen.org You might like it.
This year's Climate Fiction Prize longlist looks great. Read all of last year's list, haven't read any of these yet. Time to get stuck in.

Heat map-style graphic showing monthly air temperature rankings in the Arctic at the 925 hPa level for each month from January 1979 to December 2025. There is a long-term warming trend evident in each month. Blue shading is shown for colder months, and red shading is shown for warmer months. A yellow number is shown for each grid box to display the actual temperature ranking. December 2025 was the 11th warmest December on record.

My prediction for 2026: just as we don't check the assembly generated by the compiler anymore, soon we won't bother checking the code Claude Opus writes. It'll just work.
