Man wearing glasses standing in front of the rubble of a collapsed building.
A man sits on a mound of rubble with the remains of a demolished building behind him, under a clear blue sky.
A person lying in a hospital bed with an IV drip in their arm. They are covered in a blue blanket and wearing a surgical gown.
My father urgently needs help to cover his treatment costs. We lost our home and he lost his job because of the war. Life has become unbearably hard no income, no stability, we are struggling even to afford basic needs. Any support, even the smallest amount, would save us

Thanks Gree_!, it was nice to tackle a genre of horror I'm less familiar with.
I'm going to plug What Saints Fear tonight - plenty of demons, undead, relics and religious unpleasantness which may tantalise a few souls here...
In light of that new A24 Backrooms movie coming out later this year, I’ll share my personal essay that I wrote back in 2021 about the connection between the Backrooms and Alzheimer’s-dementia (free to read).

Oh, that sounds fascinating.
Thanks, Gree :)
I must admit, I find action scenes really hard.
Probably the closest I get in this is the protagonist's encounter with a helium birthday balloon turned massive insect. #HorrorWritersChat

My next book The Kings Raven has just been released on my Itch page.
The conclusion to the Raven duology.

You slash at the heads - that way at least the monster is little more than a blundering mass of viscera, with nothing human left. But each exposed knob of vertebra in each severed neck instantly extends towards you, prodding blindly, like young stems pushing up from fresh earth. #HorrorWritersChat
But that's ok. I know this thing. I've been scared of it so long I have its every inch memorised.
Blood-blinded, rage-blinded, I bring my axe down by touch alone, until the beast lies unrecognisable at my feet.
My cigarette goes out, spent. I decide I've earned another one.

#HorrorWritersChat, I like mutated horrors from beyond. So, think Resident Evil baddies, but add a shadowy, eldritch twist.
Just big ol' messes of terror and blood.
And yes, they very much do show up in my writing! One WIP of mine is an Earth full of those sort of monsters.
I gotta go with Cthulhu here. Such an iconic design, and the foundation for my love of unfathomable entities. 🐙
In my Synaptic Sprawl mythos, my Lovecraftian gods are known as "The Exiled Ones," and they absolutely take inspiration from other cosmic horror creatures.

I have a weakness for monsters that can only be partially perceived by humans, like the ones in Bird Box, or just move too quickly for us to fully take them in. And yes, my take on Lantern Men are very much like this. #HorrorWritersChat
Zombies/vampires appear a lot in my stories. Death/undeath fascinate me. Especially relic cults; hope coming from death is probably my most Catholic trait
I guess my "Fr Marcellus the Vampire Priest stories aren't very action-y... until he has to fight. Then it gets gruesome

Q3: #HorrorWritersChat
Xenomorphs, clearly. The idea that they molt into the most deadly version of their host is awesomely horrifying. Every alien bug since is a riff on Xeno’s anyway, stick to the sickest, slimiest, most perfectest monster!
#HorrorWritersChat
I can pick only one? 🫣 I like aliens, vampires, the Old Ones, unusual folkloric creatures like Red Caps and the Rusalka, werewolves, zombies, deceased family/friends who haunt you in an evil manner - completely unlike when they were alive. There are many more.
I quite like the quiet lone strategists of Action - like Daryl in The Walking Dead. I think.the closest I've ever come to writing one myself is the protagonist of Lantern Men, who uses deduction to evade a folkloric monster. #HorrorWritersChat
Hello #HorrorWritersChat!!
I’m Ell, I write ace horror, and my favorite action horror…hmm either SINNERS or US. Though I will say I somehow now have a weird nostalgia for Bride of Chucky too. (I’m probably gonna think of more examples after I hit post).
I have not, but my favorite archetypes are the outsider or person who must overcome a fear related to the threat, both of which are embodied by Brodie in Jaws.
