These two quit Labour a month ago and Sir Robin Wales hasn't been in office since 2018 (after a 'colourful' career as Mayor) - so calling them Labour 'heavyweight leaders' is a bit of a stretch.

Hi! Immigration lawyer here! Mahmood's view of the Refugee Convention as providing temporary protection just isnโ€™t correct & AFAIK isnโ€™t one anyone has ever adopted.

On the contrary, the Convention is clearly predicated on a long-term need for protection.

โ€˜Before they threaten to pull funding they should speak to restaurants and shopsโ€™ Dame Tracey Emin has weighed into a heated funding row after a leading Reform councillor suggested pulling cash from the Turner Contemporary.

This should be a bigger story.

Media must stop normalizing the far right Every uncritical mention of far-right rhetoric is an editorial decision with political consequences.

Buzzwords especially โ€œpopulismโ€ helped produce this kind of journalistic ambiguity

Language of common sense. Promises of order & national renewal, this is the standard trick for presenting racist politics as natural, & smuggling some of the darkest ideas of the 1930s back into public life

As you know Luke itโ€™s the result of our voting system, people are forced to vote against the party they hate rather than for the party they want to see in power. A fair electoral system would give every party the representation they deserve according to their share of the vote.

Read these words from 100 years ago about immigrants in Britain โ€“ and see how history is chillingly repeating itself | George Monbiot Shabana Mahmoodโ€™s new rights clampdown looks outlandish until we remember that this kind of hardline action is part of our countryโ€™s fabric, says George Monbiot

The precedent is eerily, chillingly precise. What the current Home Secretary Shabana Mahmood is doing to immigrants and refugees today is almost a carbon copy of what Sir William Joynson-Hicks was doing 100 years ago. And that's not a good thing. My column.

By embracing the same narrative, Labour are giving legitimacy to Reformโ€™s plans.

Recruitment must be going poorly, theyโ€™ve probably realised they donโ€™t have enough former Tories to fill their candidate list.

If these people are found to be working for a foreign power, Keir Starmer will be personally responsible. Whereas when a senior Reform colleague is jailed for ten years for taking bribes from Russia, that is nothing to do with me.

There are no proposed legal changes on burning Qurans or Bibles or the Torah, though we should discourage burning any books. It is a public order offence in some contexts, as harassment of worshippers, and not in itself in other contexts, eg outside an Embassy.

The new elections act is a chance to fix it with:

๐ŸŒ Overseas constituencies
๐Ÿข Using embassies and consulates

GB News are now bringing Restore Britain on to the channel to tell their own black British presenter, born in Newcastle, she is not British - and it is "ridiculous" to define being British in a way that includes black people.
