I feel like for years Anno hated being an Otaku, because of how otakus hated the og ending. End of eva was a giant fuck you to his subculture. He was hurt so he retaliated, the rebuild concludes by not going the opposite way but by embracing what he loves and what people need to hear
Yeah movie 3 was like Eeh, while i loved the design it was just episode 24. I kind of understand how it took 8 years to flip and deliver the message he wanted to bring out in the og run but in a much more elaborate, much more self understanding manner.
It's "touch grass" the movie, but at the same time it's all about loving being an otaku. It's such a good balance
