Still fierce cold across large swathes of Canada and Alaska at same time record breaking March heat dome is expected in western US. Model forecasts have 105F (41C) in Phoenix, Arizona next week totally unprecedented this early.
Final batch of showers going through with some hail and sleet. Surprised we've not had a ⚡from these.
SATURDAY
A decent day after a cold start. Dry with sunny spells for most. Chance of a few showers developing over the hills/Peak District then easing away. UV levels now up to 2. Breezy.

Any showers fading with the odd rogue one left overnight. Clear skies and a patchy frost here and there, mostly rurally and in shelter from the breeze.

Showers to our north have now drifted south and a few more are developing locally. Fresher out there with a temp of 5°C and a feels-like temp of 3°C.

Sunny spells, much colder and windy. Some wintry showers especially in the north then a more organised band of heavy rain for a few hours later in the evening, perhaps falling as snow on the highest hills.

More rain to come this evening before it turns drier and colder overnight. A real edge to the wind by dawn on Friday with any showers becoming wintry.

We are now in the lull that I mentioned (I noticed the apps saying it would continue to rain which wasn't true). But that heavy rain to our WNW will be arriving later this evening with strong winds. There could well be another squall-line.

The coast/west is definitely the place to be today with wall-to-wall sunshine as convection inland brings cloudier skies.
