Finding the right group takes time, but once you do, it’s like family. Don’t give up!

Honestly, learning with an online group is think can be really beneficial if that would be something you’d be willing to do. There is something special about playing in person, but online is almost as good.

Just don’t over prep, because then it will be a chore. Set yourself up for improv.

Sure, it’s hard to avoid having to do maps and monsters, but for plot hooks and stuff? I just make it up as I go around what the players want to do.

lol that’s awesome. I just really love the “conflict” of xcom and the psionics just feel like a good replacement for magic in other settings.

I know there are other places for this, but I’d love to DM a one shot for an established group of 30+ year olds in my anyventured12 system. This isn’t a playtest, it is a complete game that won’t be too foreign for pathfinder and 5e players.

Back in the pandemic, we played in vrchat and I 3d modeled all the maps and play area. I kinda miss it, but it was a lot of work

I don’t disagree with that, but my point is, you’re better at a bow because your “skill with a bow” is good, not because you are dexterous.

Might I suggest using the term “generative AI” or “image generation? I know it doesn’t have the same ring, but besmirching an entire (amazing)field by just blanketing it with a single term is rough for people who have dedicated their lives to it and further spreads the stereotype that it’s all bad.

There are a lot of great developers already doing it! For instance, anyventured12 is completely free, open sourced and has a website with dndbeyond functionality! It’s just hard for systems like mine to rise above the surface!

I personally don't think the current drama with d&d is going to happen (at least I hope it won't) but there are plenty of other alternatives!

We built AnyventureD12 to always be free and open source. There will never be publishers or money getting in the way of creativity.

Agree 100%. I'm a programmer so I built the system to be 'modular' and I have always loved the open-source way programmers contribute to each others' projects!

Self-Plug, but AnyventureD12 is designed to be open-sourced and completely free. We have a growing community, but are in the polish stage now after play testing for 2 years.

Corporate interest is the bane of creativity. I think we’ve seen the height of d&d outside of some major rebranding. Musk fans and ttrpgs have such little overlap, I think that would be a death sentence.

Controversial maybe, but I don't like how attributes are so involved with determining combat skills in most tactical TTRPGs. Why can't I be a super strong and muscular character who can shoot a bow? Why do I need dexterity? Intelligence and Wisdom have the same problems

A module for a ttrpg with several skills and abilities for undead characters.

Just added the Undead Module to @anyventured12.com ttrpg. This is a starting option that really changes how you play your character. I’m excited to see how players use this.

I’m very neutral on it, personally. I credit it for getting me into TTRPGs and encouraging me to make my own system.

I don’t play it anymore, but I still think it’s the best entry point for new players to the genre.

Just remember no one is a professional, so don’t put high expectations on yourself. Be prepared to describe your character (observable stuff)

If you have any concerns or questions, write them down and ask your DM after the session. (Unless it absolutely needs to be answered immediately)

I loved c2, but I’ve tried c3 a couple times and I just could not get it to stick. I could stick through the slow parts in c2 because I loved the characters, but the slow parts in c3 are painful.
