Finished this one up in a couple days. The baseball stuff was interesting and Jim Hawkins did a fine job on it for the most part, despite minor errors.
However, I came away feeling like I wouldn't have liked Jack Sanford much. Lots of brooding, golf, gin, and shooting things. Whee.

I think I'll celebrate with a Lafayette coney and a Vernor's!

Love it! Except for garden layouts, so few miniatures have natural light. It makes a big difference.
What I still can't believe is that this one actually got elected in the first place.
My body type is a popped can of cinnamon rolls that was pushed to the back of the fridge and has been expired for 5 months.
A body-shaped object wrapped in black plastic and painterโs tape sits atop a recycling can by the curb.

Yeah, the most powerful military in the world kicked those schoolgirls' butts. So proud. ๐คฎ
TQA is my favorite! I have also read The End of the Affair and Our Man In Havana which was a hoot.
I have not read the book but I love the movie! Ever since it was on with The French Lieutenantโs Woman in the last theater double feature that I ever saw. I have watched it again at least four more times since then.
Canceled plans?
This was my fourth Greene. He has become a go-to for me.
After the heaviness of The Power & the Glory, I am using this short baseball bio as a change of pace. Jim Hawkins is more puffball than fastball, but it should be a fun read just the same. โพ

It took me a month to finish this, but it was well worth it. The harsh, arid, corrupt, and oppressive atmosphere had me creeping slowly through the first half but the second half went better as I began to see what Greene was up to here, and it's impressive.

I hear you. I try to read that books that will leave me better off than before I read them, whether the satisfaction is learning something, being moved emotionally, seeing how someone else lives, or being made to simply laugh.
Another amazing movie: "The Hunter" 2011. Willem Dafoe, Frances O'Connor, Sam Neill

"Clean & Sober" (1988). One of my favorite movies. Love Keaton, Walsh, Baker, Freeman. The music is excellent too.

Disappointing. Moreover, the floor is so rarely lava these days.
My favorite character actor, especially in the role of Michael Keaton's character's AA sponsor in "Clean & Sober." He even got the opening scene all to himself. Later he gets a monologue. "Those were the days of the really important headlights." Also loved him as the schlub cop in "Narrow Margin."
LOVE the guy! My favorite character actor. I recently rewatched "Serpico" and hadn't realized that he had a small role in it. I remember him in "Narrow Margin" and others, but my favorite is "Clean & Sober" where he got a larger role than usual as Michael Keaton's character's AA sponsor.
