One of the problems with the way we look back at WW2 is that the atrocities meted out by our allies have been occluded by the idea that we were the good guys. The Soviet army’s atrocities then are directly analogous to the Russian army’s in this war. The Russians are just like the Russians.

I have only vague memories of the details but from what I recall Starmer attempted to articulate the idea that the left needed to find a way to express patriotism - rather more successfully than ZP has done here imo. It’s not a new debate.

It is. I still, from time to time, run through the “Ye elves of hills…” speech in my mind when I need reminding of its beauty. That’s my favourite bit.

I honestly cannot see anything unusual at all. It seems others are reading all sorts of dire things into the clip. Anyway, in the scheme of things, it isn’t important enough for me to spend anytime worrying about it!!

The Tempest. Partly because I played Prospero and it changed my life - but mostly because it defies classification, is truly original, and has so many angles you can play - you could watch hundreds of productions and they’d all be different. A wonderful work of art.

IPSO have published their verdict on The Daily Telegraph’s fake £345,000-a year banker couple who claimed they couldn’t afford five holidays.

The paper declined to explain to the watchdog how the article came to be published - but our reporting at the time sets it out…

I agree. It is complex - but I do like his list of three interlinking causes. Plus I tend to agree with the assessment of the by-election v general election. It will be a different world by then anyway. One can only hope it will be Farage-less, for one thing 🤞

I’m guessing the allegations are early signs that they think they’ve lost. And I have a horrible feeling this playbook of allegations will play out at every subsequent ballot.

Farage is expressing concerns about “predominantly Muslim” areas. Explain to me how this isn’t racism.
