Check out Everett Foxβs translation. Heβs the most literal Jewish translator.
Whatβs the readability for those who know nothing about Magic?
A fawn-colored tabby cat lies on her back while she grooms her left front leg (right, from the perspective of the viewer). She lies upon a deep purple blanket. Both the top and bottom of the frame show the light purple blanket under both the darker blanket and the cat.
Coco would like to remind everyone that curling up in warm blankets is a perfectly valid way to spend a snow day. (Even better if you have a good book, but unfortunately she lacks the ability to read.)
A lynx-point Siamese cat with magnificent long whiskers takes up the entire frame of the picture. She is standing on someoneβs lap with her head close to the camera so it takes up most of the frame. Her blue eyes are open and looking at the camera.
Dali says hi to her @littermates.bsky.social.
I nominated you last year!
CoverLetter_Version5 by Courtney Floyd is excellent scifi flash fiction for anyone who's been on the professional job market. It somehow captures the essence of the entire experience through 1,000 words that you actually want to read. And reread. And ponder. Audio/eprint. Highly recommend.
The Other Significant Others: Reimagining Life with Friendship at the Center by Rhaina Cohen is probably the most eye-opening thing I have read in a very long time. I saw glimpses of so many people I know and how we could exist in different parts of the book. Highly recommend. Audio/print. ππ
A plump fawn-colored tabby cat loafs nestled in a plush white blanket with grey highlights. Her head is turned slightly to the viewerβs left, wide green eyes open and ears upright.
Still no third book! Do I dare reread without knowing how it ends?
And the number of times I had to rewrite that clarification, on a day I did NOT go to workβ¦ frustration! Folks, always stay aware of your surroundings and beware of standing up too fast into wooden cabinets. They fight back more than youβd think.
I would prefer real audiobooks of the short fiction, but my brain is still damaged so these stories are inaccessible to in digital print form. Iβll take what I can get and be grateful not to cringe at every period in a sentence.
I still want all audiobooks to be narrated by real, live people because AI can never match voice actors, but Speechify is proving to be a decent accessibility tool for helping me read all the @seananmcguire.bsky.social October Daye shorts that arenβt available in audio.
A black cat with yellow l eyes lies on a bed with purple sheets. Her back half is under a purple blanket and her head faces the camera, ears up.
Luna is ready for bed.
If Katrina let me, I would catify the house. Hire a professional, go all out. A haven for our cats + the best foster room ever.
βThe Four Sisters Overlooking the Seaβby @naomikritzer.bsky.social (Asimovβs 9-10/24) just won a Hugo Award! Itβs the only non-audio short fiction I managed to read this year (post-concussion still sucks) and it was so worth it. Find yourselves a copy, folks!
Yay Maeve! I now live in the same city as my former foster Lilith, renamed Maeve, and I canβt wait to catsit for her!
We move in a week! How many weeks until weβre unpacked enough that my partner agrees to fosters???
So. Much. Laundry. OMG.
A black cat with yellow eyes lounges in a bay window, her front end and head facing the camera. Her ears are straight up. Through the window a grey wooden house is visible.
The cats love the bay windows in our temporary rental. How do I break it to them that our new house doesnβt have any?
Thistlefoot by GennaRose Nethercott is a novel about generational trauma and the power and the necessity of stories. It tugged at my heartstrings in all the right places, but cat lovers beware of a few catskin references. Magical realism. Highly recommend. Audio/print. ππ β‘οΈπ
Rainbow capitalism aside, queer books are actively under attack, and now is a great time to show publishers there's still a thriving market for books with LGBTIA+ characters and by LGBTIA+ authors. If you've been hoping for an excuse to buy queer books on your wish list, consider this your free pass
Also, if you have a library card and the Libby app, you can access the Queer Liberation Library for free. www.queerliberationlibrary.org/login
The person who built our house put the bathroom HVAC vent in the floor next to the bathtub. We know he had kids because a relative of his volunteers with the same rescue we do. What on earth was he thinking? (We cover it with a towel or there just will be water in the basement with every shower.)
A lynx-point Siamese cat is curled up on a lap, her nose tucked under one of her front paws.
Thanks, Billy and Pepper! Your sister says hello!
Still recovering from the one in December! Iβm up to six hours of work a dayβ¦ Iβm back to full time next week! I still canβt multitask, though, which means Iβm reading so many fewer books and what I do read doesnβt always stick.
I am DNFing a lot more Hugo books than normal this year. I think itβs the concussion; my brain isnβt up to snuff yet.
I loved Bluesky until the concussion made looking at a screen - especially when scrolling- too painful to do for a reasonable amount of time! I miss the community Iβd started to build here. @support.bsky.team please make it accessible!
So called βautistic rigidityβ contributes to some of my greatest strengths: a commitment to integrity, honesty & fairness, internal consistency in my thinking, & focused dedication to my work. It comes with tradeoffs, like everything else in the world. #Autistic
My partner and I went to get the protest signs out of the shed and I was very disappointed to find that the Jewish ones were too specific for this particular protest. Gotta get myself something from Tβruahβ¦
