As [my step-dad] said to me once as a kid when I told him I liked my multi-colored pajama pants but didn’t like a specific golfer’s multi-colored pantaloons: “It’s the same damn shit!””

I fucked up the A-major many times along the way, but I owned those fuck ups, learned from them, and tried them again until not only could I get it right, but I could make it feel natural every time.

It wasn’t that long ago that I used to just bar my A-major because I thought it was easier. When I decided that I was going to learn how to make it the right way, I was frustrated because I felt like my bulky fingers couldn’t make it work.

“…While playing [a specific punk song] this morning, there’s a part where you go from a D-major chord to an A-major chord, and as my fingers shifted into place between the two chords, I felt my fingertips press into place to form the proper A-major.
