What is a Dutch 'fietsstraat'?
These bicycle street are roads designed mainly for bikes. Cars are allowed, but they are guests: they must drive slowly (30 km/h or less) and give way to cyclists. The streets often have red asphalt, bike symbols on the road, and signs saying βcars are guestsβ.

After construction, usage rose by 120% in the first year and continued to grow.

In 2016, the City of Amsterdam was interested in starting a pilot with a different road profile. This resulted in a new type of bicycle street for Amsterdam. In line with other bicycle streets, cyclists have priority over cars (cars are guests).

ParkMyBike (#DCEnetwork) has installed smart bike hangars in cooperation with Falco UK (manufacturer) and Shrewsbury Moves. This initiative from Shrewsbury Town Council aims to improve public space and mobility, with cycling as a key part.
By reducing parking spots, replaced by loading zones, this street in Paris has been transformed. It now gives more space to cyclists, with a protected lane on each side. This makes a huge difference in safety and rider experience.
