Of course, things work in a case per case basis, but that's kinda the point: there's no "right way" to finish a story. It can be anything and it's your role as the reader to feel and think for it yourself, not follow a formula.

In general, I think the idea of a "good ending" some have is just... fundamentally boring to me.

I don't want "every plotline finished" or "every mystery solved". I want something thematically interesting to make me rethink everything I read so far, not a guidebook.

Fantastic chapter of Chainsaw Man. Part 2 is really on another level, I love how much the main themes of the story affect Denji's personal life so directly -- it's a constant push between characters and world (as in, the creation of the author), the ending couldn't be any different.
