Also the rumours kinda suggest that Age 5 will still be medieval, sort like a better more manageable version of Age 4, which is also something the community will probably not like since we want Age of Empires games to explore new Ages. Age 4 worked because the series was dormant for decades.
Age of Empires this idea of being strategical for pc dont add up since Age is expanding very hard and fast to consoles and with cuts inside Age ip it looks like Ms only see Age 2 and 4 as important games, not rts and not even Age of Empires as a whole.
the bare minimum with Blizzard rts they are huge and Starcraft will be turned into an fps, and I bet if this game is successful they will never going to make another Starcraft, like they did with Wow, its so successful that it kills any interesting for them to make WarCraft 4. And even inside...
Also the rumours stated that Microsoft sees rts as a important ip for pc, which also feels odd since Ms sits on a lot of unused and dormant rts ips, they dont port Halo Wars 2 to Steam and there is demand for that, they dont re-release Rise of Legends letting it be abandonware, they are doing...
So with Microsoft laying off some Age devs, stopping development on Age 3, having to maintain Age 2, 4 and Mythology on Pc, Xbox and Playsation 5, I dont see how they would work on Age of Empires 5, and they dont have another studio that could work on that.
they will move to Unreal engine because Relic Games Essence engine was problematic also dont add a lot since Essence is a engine made by an rts company designed for rts while Unreal seems to be very problematic when it comes to rts and strategy in general.
