From one perspective, this is a story about grit and determination.
From another, it's a damning portrait of a country where someone working full-time at $11/hour lives in a $60-a-night motel with her toddler—then spends evenings DoorDashing with her kid because affordable childcare is nonexistent.
It's been discussed more in the context of the Manosphere, but: A consequence of being fully submerged in the Trump-era for over a decade is that an entire generation of reactionary-minded men (mostly) have come of age in a social landscape where shamelessness & cruelty are aspirational traits.
WATCH — @jamestalarico.bsky.social : “Every dollar we spend bombing people in the Middle East is one we’re not spending here at home. We’re always told we don’t have enough money for schools or healthcare or for veterans, but there’s always enough to bomb people on the other side of the world.”

This press conference gave me chills. And not the good kind.
It’s not the Save America Act, it’s the Stop Americans Voting Act.
QUESTION: What the hell does “no men in women’s sports” have to do with voting?
ANSWER: Absolutely nothing. Republicans are trying to force Dems into bad optics.
I’m hardly the first person to say this but this weekend’s coverage of war, gas prices, and Trump’s disgraceful behavior at the dignified transfer really underscore how algorithms can offset the democratization of information that comes with other technologies.

"...and we could be debating it but, the President's already taken us to war so it's too late. It would undermine the cause for us to debate it. What a humiliating, self defeating argument for a member of the Article 1 Branch of Congress to be making..."
A DOGE staffer assigned to the National Endowment for the Humanities to flag grants for "DEI" tries to explain what "DEI" is. This deposition is part of a lawsuit by the @acls1919.bsky.social, @historians.org and @modernlanguage.bsky.social.
MAHA-aligned research is entering the training data of AI models that millions of people (and increasingly governments) rely on.
Warren: "It is still the case that the Trump admin cannot explain the reasons we entered this war, the goals we're trying to accomplish. The only part that seems clear is that while there is no money for 15m Americans who lost their healthcare, there's a billion a day to spent on bombing Iran."

“Locked up in rooms where 12 people fit. They don’t let us go out to the games and park that’s there, and it’s very boring to do every day. May God touch the hearts of those at ICE. Let us out, we are not criminals. I want to go home.”

Rand Paul: "I think we've gotten overextended. This is our second war in a month, and these wars are very very expensive not only in the lives that are lost, but also in treasure. I'm very very concerned about the debt. Half a trillion dollars for the military budget is fiscally irresponsible."
I know, "low-info" voters and all that, but I still marvel at how people don't realize everything gets worse under Republicans. I get far more scam calls than I used to. All these little laws go from "grossly insufficient" to "wholly unenforced."
SEVEN. That’s how many strikes hit near the Iranian girls’ school.
Video shows a tomahawk missile hitting a building next to the school. The kind of “precision” you get when an incompetent administration runs a war on outdated intelligence.
Don’t look away —we should all see the deadly destruction
Just a reminder that Muslims have been on this continent since the first arrival of non-Indigenous people. They were among the first generation of Americans, and have been here ever since.
There Have Been No Approvals for New Transit Projects in the First Year of the Current Trump Administration
For the 1st time in the 1st year of a presidential administration since at least 1993, under Trump 2, the Federal Transit Administration signed 0 new contracts for major transit projects, like subways or light rail.
The US is facing a crisis of rail transit investment: www.urban.org/urban-wire/r...

The most important story from Sunday not related to the Iran war. It got resonance around the world, but inside the US, not so much. Front page of today's Miami Herald.
The tech oligarchs who bought Trump are already plotting what comes next.
Their current puppet of choice is JD Vance, though that could easily change.
Make no mistake. Vance is far more dangerous and worse than Trump ever was

We have a government more outraged by spaghetti straps than their own caging of human beings.
And since these *dress code violations* will undoubtedly impact women more than men the policing of women’s bodies adds a whole other layer to this.
The Discourse has become sort of numb to the fact that the richest guy on earth and owner of a major social media platform just routinely spits out the kind of nakedly white supremacist shit that until a decade ago you rarely saw outside of places like Stormfront.
Still crazy that the president’s lawyer spent two days with Ghislaine Maxwell, she “cleared” him of wrongdoing and was almost immediately transferred to a more pleasant prison and nobody in the administration will explain it and the media acts like two large dots are just impossible to connect.
There is apparently credible evidence that the president of the United States is a pedophile. The comforting phrase “accused him without evidence” no longer fits this situation, and journalists must resort to the more perfunctory “hasn’t been formally charged.” www.thedailybeast.com/key-details-...
