Two Glossy Ibises confront each other mid-air above a misty wetland in Keoladeo National Park, Bharatpur. The ibis on the right lifts one wing high while facing the other bird, which turns slightly away, showing iridescent green and bronze tones on its back and wings. Their long curved bills point toward one another as their legs dangle during the aerial interaction. A large Brittle Star navigates some red urchins on a rocky reef near Santa Barbara CA.
I'm kinda fond of brittle stars and they don't get much press. This is one of the larger more active species. Ophioderma panamense, the Panama Serpent Star. Found on rocky reefs from S. Cal to Ecuador. It has no trouble navigating some red urchins. Lots of tube feet coming out of the urchin below it
