I got a really hard stick today!!! π¦ππ»πͺπ»πͺ
Drew a patient today on her 3rd pregnancy; I asked if she was doing anything special for valentineβs. βNo, every day is valentineβs day for my husband and Iβ was her cheesy response but it gave me the warm fuzzies too π₯°
Goodness I really lucked out with my externship location, everyone is so nice and helpful. 10/10, and already 5/50 sticks completed! πͺπ»π«Άπ»π¦
Sometimes, I hate everything and everybody.
Except that one person and that one thing. The rest of it can fuck off. Especially ICE.

Passed my NCCT certification exam yesterday, which means I am a certified phlebotomist!
Next step, externship for licensing! π¦π§ββοΈ
The only help I could directly give today was water to a patientβs dog; the dog was a topic of fear for everyone but my thought was, you probably wonβt bite of you want water & I give it so risk it for da biscuit. Puppo was thrilled πͺπ»
I made a patient a stuffie today from a pillow and a warm blanket while she waited for inpatient psych to pick her up.
It was infinitely more rewarding than the 88.7% I scored on the TEAS exam yesterday. Both are wins, but one will stick with me forever. π§Έ
Today I learned I have a gift for hand draws in phlebotomy. Apparently so did my dad, a fact I didnβt know till today and which makes me feel closer to him. I wish I could ask him for tips on straight draws. I miss him so much, especially in times of connection.
My life is so different from 2 years ago. Then, I was traveling the world for work, making videos & websites. Now I have non-drug abuse track marks and hematomas and had a fake arm arrive at my house the other day.
Getting an mRNA COVID vaccine seems to prime the immune system to attack cancer cells in patients on immune checkpoint therapy. Patients who got COVID vaccines were TWICE as likely to be alive at three years as those who didn't
BEHOLD MY BEAUTIFUL CHILDREN
I swear the skill I am cementing the most in ECG class is how to correctly spell βrhythmβ and all of its variations
I have to memorize the krebs cycle for micro, pray for me
Forgot to tag #microsky however will I learn
Behold the beauty of my B. Subtilis streak plate. Also I got a 95% on my micro test this week, but really this streak plate is my true pride and joy
I donβt know how Iβm supposed to focus on my micro exam today when my prof just dropped that thereβs βbright and shiny new microscopesβ in our lab this morning. All we are allowed to do is more streak plates today. So cruel. ππ«Άπ»π¦ π¬
One of the things I miss the most about my time in Europe was the lack of English spoken anywhere. It was such a calming experience to not be around American drivel.
Since returning to school after many years, Iβve been employing a strategy of fighting for every point for the 1st 2/3 of the semester so I can chill by finals week. It works like a charmβfor ex, I just realized if I get a 50% on my next test AND blow off the final, I will still end up with an A.π€πͺπ»

How is it in this now 5th post-COVID-19 year that a healthcare student wonβt wear a mask (yet just applied hand sanitizer) in class when they are coughing and snuffling about?
Perhaps their next class should be microbiology.
One of the awesome benefits about doing well in medical terminology is now my dad and I have a secret language. This connection with him and his lifeβs work is such a gift. π₯°

Five years ago, as we β¬οΈ diversity of Penn Cardiology Grand Rounds with Penn Women in Cardiology, I wondered what the U.S. landscape of Cardiology Grand Rounds speakerships was
Proud to work w/this amazing team to answer this question, now in @jama.com Cardiology

Hard work paid off, 4.0 gpa, Deanβs List, and one of those As was in what has been termed the most difficult Anatomy class in the Bay Area. β¨πΎπ₯
Aaand weβre done with physiology! I only got a 70% on the test, but in my defense, I needed a 51% to keep my A in the class so itβs still an overachievement lol
