Look up and you see the fairytale towers of the National Palace of Sintra, Portugal. Look down on miles of distant Atlantic coastline. It seems a nice fit for the #AboveandBelow theme of this week's #PalacesandGardens by @sabineshutterbug.bsky.social

This image captures the view of Mount Hood from the Portland Japanese Garden, featuring a unique bamboo art installation.
Location: The Portland Japanese Garden, located within Washington Park in Portland, Oregon.
Art Installation: The structure is part of the "Bending Nature" bamboo art exhibition, which showcases installations designed to blend with the natural environment.
Background: The city of Portland skyline is visible in the middle ground, with the snow-capped Mount Hood towering in the distance on a clear day.
Context: These installations were featured at the garden to challenge conventional bamboo craft techniques and provide unique viewing opportunities for visitors

From Above in the Japanese Gardens in Portland, Oregon we see the city skyline Below, especially the building we call Big Pink. (U.S. Bancorp Tower) The restaurant at the top makes you feel royal. #PNW #ECK #WCK #Photo

Several faded camellia blooms and leaves on a gravel walkway. Shadows cast by the camellia trunks partially shade the photo. The blooms are pink and the leaves are green. A few pink petals are visible too, from a flower that has completely come apart.

One more for #PalacesAndGardens and #AboveAndBelow, under the camellias. 🌱

Designed in 1878 the plants survive in a mild microclimate. I have just read that although the plants are subject to salty water and gales the rocks absorb heat and act as a radiator.

Looking down from the battlements of St Michael’s Mount in Marazion, Cornwall.
The fragile and beautiful terraced gardens lead down to the sea.

Awesome and a very special and precious biotope. Even though I’m afraid of heights, I like the photo very much.

An ornate spire rises into a gray moody sky. It sits on a carved pedestal which itself rises from an ancient moss and greenery covered stone structure.

Looking up at the remains of this Celtic cross for #AboveAndBelow #PalacesAndGardens. It was a tomb at the #RockOfCashel. #photography #ECK
