People care more about code quality on things they dont enjoy than things they do.

Not using a Pokémon example, Lufia 2 is a buggy game but playing it is still rather fun despite the bugs. I think if people enjoy the game enough, then bugs are more a minor annoyance than a reason to stop playing.
