Think of Raph and Tanaka. Plucked from relative obscurity for cut price fees and make an impact worth multiples of their original outlay. There is potential out there, hidden under rocks and stuck on the bench whilst the big name signing takes the applause. We just have to find it and harness it.

Agreed that understanding PSR is a necessary evil. But the amount we spend shouldn't be the determining factor of our success/survival. It's how we spend it that is key. I always cringe when I see links to this player or that player and the metric on whether they are any good is the fee we pay.
