For those who want a systems focused advent to wind up the year, itβs begun!
Daily posts will refresh here: www.ruthmalan.com/Advent.html
And will be posted to the page for the day (which will also hold notes and links to work people share here or on their own blog, etc.).
#AdventOfSystemSeeing
Phase 1: Learn Domain A accesses Domain B's data in the legacy directly
Phase 2: Migrate The concept is validated, so migrate required logic to Domain B, create an interface, and migrate Domain A's dependency on the legacy to the new interface.
Legacy-leveraged learning phase is the name I use for a pattern we've been using at PayFit in a few places recently.
This pattern is controversial because it violates my most important modernization principle: respect domain boundaries.

Have you had enough of all the endless chit-chat about AI? Yeah. I hear you.
So I ainβt sayinβ nuffink other than, Iβm running a two-day workshop in Amsterdam on November 17th and 18th, getting the most out of LLM-augmented coding tools and having FUN with it.
Letβs not talk about it. Letβs DO It.
I really love that @gienverschatse.com talk was such a great compliment for mine. Honored to be the first one quoting her β₯οΈ

Can you design a system in 2 hours? We gave it a shot at @dddeu.bsky.social!
We tackled a problem at the design level, using the #ACEDmodel π©π¨π§π₯
Great designs, collaboration & questions!
And so many smiles π
I run this workshop from 2 hours up to 2 days in length. jcq.me/tdesysb
I recently watched @felienne.bsky.social make a case for feminism in programming language design www.youtube.com/live/-Br66SU...

This talk sparked thoughts, helped me learn something new, and also triggered someΒ complicated feelings. Sharing in no specific order (1/7)
Thatβs definitely on how works in real life. You have your decisions and thenβ¦some context brings questions. Thank you ! π
Woooow, this is cool, i was thinking about this and wasnβt sureβ¦good idea !
I remember one hands-on code workshop that I attended gave a very simple example of the business project and while coding we were able to identify the pain points because of that π
When youβve joined a workshop in a conference, what you liked about it? Will you improve something?
Iβm still refining my architecture workshop for @codemash.bsky.social and I would love to hear some tips π©π»βπ»
@tekiegirl.bsky.social is the best β₯οΈ
This is very interesting, Iβll take a look for sure
Likewise! For more effective communication and documentation!
Of course ! Thank you for laughing with me and teaching @golang.org to the #OrlandoDevs community! π»
Then also @williamcook.dev brought the fun and sad parts of using @golang.org in a fun presentation. We know that go users are there because of the cute mascote! #OrlandoDevs rock it !
Iβm in the #OrlandoDevs ignite party and this quote is so true that it hurts. As @mentrix.bsky.social says: communication is one of the most important skills for devs and engineers π @robschn.com presenting !

Exactly, using just those metrics to take decisions is not the best idea
Iβm not saying that they arenβt useful or perfect, but if you base all your products on the Dora metrics then you arenβt looking far enough
Iβve experienced that some managers just care aboutDora metrics and some products like payroll or payments gateways donβt need to be changed so often. The important thing there is the time to recover, but do infinite commits just to get a metric up is the same as test minimum things just for coverage
Here's a curated #starterPack for #softwareArchitecture and #softwareDesign π

The new Voldemort
I agree partially with this, because also DORA metrics can be use for the βevilβ, what about if the product does not need to change so often? The one that I really like is the time to take to go back to businessβ¦and even that one can be controversial if it is not βthat importantβ. Always depends
While Iβm refining my workshop for @codemash.bsky.social I started looking at the #cards42org @innoq.bsky.social for some inspiration andβ¦ this card is the best! The upside down disclaimer was sad but I had fun shaking the wand (you never know when magic happens)β¨πͺ
