How We Got the Lithium-Ion Battery
It took decades of research, performed around the world, before a practical lithium-ion battery was possible.
"Itβs more appropriate to think of the lithium-ion battery not as a single invention, but as a steady accumulation of many inventions that were needed to both make a battery practical and to unlock its full potential."
This is true of all innovation.

There's value in short-duration lithium batteries for intra and interday cycling, but we've found that multiday storage can greatly reduce the amount of renewables overbuild you typically see in a 100% clean energy scenario.

we pair well with any multi-day (MD) mismatch in electricity supply and demand, whether that's due to renewables reductions, or a general lack of capacity. We pair particularly well with offshore wind. We've done a lot of modeling on the role of MD storage, we find that a mix of durations is best

you bet. We are currently building our first large-scale factory in West Virginia, it will start production next summer. We have ~5GWh of contracts signed, mostly with Xcel, Dominion, Southern, and a couple others.

Hi everyone! I am new to Bluesky. I work on energy innovation policy at Form Energy (we are making iron-air batteries), with many opinions about how to use federal policy to catalyze the energy transition. Looking forward to diving into energysky and greensky!

It's happening! NY Governor Kathy Hochul announced today that the first offshore wind turbine has been installed at South Fork Wind. Massachusett's Vinyard Wind erected its first turbines recently too. Pictures via NYSERDA:

Hmm, perhaps when Iron-air batteries start becoming more commonplace we shall see some more wind/battery dual deployment then, since they are more suitable for long periods of charging and discharging.
