Monday: 12°C in Dunedin to 21°C for Hamilton. Tuesday: 14°C for Wellington to 22°C for Tauranga. Wednesday: 18°C for Christchurch to 22 for Hamilton.

Road snowfall warnings, updated 10:34am 1st March. Lewis Pass on state highway 7, from 6pm to midnight on Sunday the 1st of March, duration 6 hours. Porters Pass on state highway 73, from 5pm on Sunday 1st of March to 4am Monday 2nd of March, duration 11 hours.

🚗 Road Snowfall Warnings have been issued for Lewis Pass and Porters Pass. Snow is unlikely to settle at all on the roads until overnight as they cool down. Up to 2cm may accumulate at Porters, while less than 1cm is expected at Lewis. More info here: bit.ly/AllWarnings

Observed temperature and satellite for Aotearoa New Zealand at 11am Sunday 1 March. Invercargill, Dunedin, Timaru and Queenstown share the lowest temperature at 12°C , while Kaitāia, Whangārei and Whitianga are the highest at 22°C . A band of cloud lies just south of Christchurch.

The first day of meteorological autumn is starting off with a bang, or more accurately, a (cold) snap! 🥶

❄️ Monday night is shaping up to be one of the coldest of the year so far ❄️

🥶 Only Auckland and Northland barely avoid single digits with 10°C minimums. Inland areas are colder with Hamilton forecast to hit 4°C. Further south, Dunedin airport and Alexandra may drop to just 2°C.

🌀 First Tropical Cyclone of the Southwest Pacific season forms.

Tropical Cyclone Urmil has just been named, located over Vanuatu as a Category 1 system.

Once the system moves beyond Vanuatu, it is forecast to head into the open ocean. It is not expected to affect New Zealand.
