In Person Whisky Tasting - An Evening With... Justine Hazlehurst | Distilled Consultant Whisky Tasting An evening of Drams and insight with whisky historian and author Justine Hazlehurst

Any Newcastle based #whisky folk here on Bluesky? On 1st May, not only will I be joining Lee "Connas" Connor to chat about my book but he's also only gone & come up with a cracking line-up of drams for the occasion ๐Ÿ‘‡

Hopefully see some of you there! ๐Ÿฅƒ

If buying, my go to is Whisky.Auction. Always thought their quality assurance & customer service has been excellent. Their commission is a little higher but I find that's often offset by the lower prices the bottles fetch & the better delivery / insurance rate

One of the best 12 year old whiskies out there. A solid dram ๐Ÿฅƒ

When visiting the distillery shortly after it opened, I was under the impression that this range was only going to be available at the visitor centre itself. So, maybe it was originally produced with a certain customer in mind? #TheCairnDistillery

Agreed! Nice friendly, honest whisky chat #TheCairnDistillery

The 12 y/o and 18 y/o are great value for money. The 30 y/o, although still very good, lacked a certain something for me. The 25 y/o is a belter of a dram #TheCairnDistillery

04.03.2026 20:29 ๐Ÿ‘ 3 ๐Ÿ” 0 ๐Ÿ’ฌ 0 ๐Ÿ“Œ 0

Dram 4: on the palate, strawberry jam, Blackjack sweeties and fresh ginger #TheCairnDistillery

04.03.2026 20:22 ๐Ÿ‘ 3 ๐Ÿ” 0 ๐Ÿ’ฌ 0 ๐Ÿ“Œ 0

Possibly. It does feel as though the sherry cask influence is less on this one #TheCairnDistillery

There are a few 30+ year old blended malts out there. Not all at this excellent price point though ๐Ÿ˜Š#TheCairnDistillery

04.03.2026 20:17 ๐Ÿ‘ 0 ๐Ÿ” 0 ๐Ÿ’ฌ 0 ๐Ÿ“Œ 0

It's more timid than the other three imo #TheCairnDistillery

04.03.2026 20:14 ๐Ÿ‘ 2 ๐Ÿ” 0 ๐Ÿ’ฌ 1 ๐Ÿ“Œ 0

Dram 4 - actually finding this lighter and fresher than the 25 y/o #TheCairnDistillery

04.03.2026 20:10 ๐Ÿ‘ 3 ๐Ÿ” 0 ๐Ÿ’ฌ 0 ๐Ÿ“Œ 0

Dram 4 - 30 y/o: on the nose, quite shy at first. Then toffee apples; hint of aniseed balls; wet stones (?) #TheCairnDistillery

04.03.2026 20:06 ๐Ÿ‘ 4 ๐Ÿ” 1 ๐Ÿ’ฌ 0 ๐Ÿ“Œ 0

Definitely those musty notes akin to some of the old blends I'm used to drinking #TheCairnDistillery

04.03.2026 20:02 ๐Ÿ‘ 5 ๐Ÿ” 1 ๐Ÿ’ฌ 1 ๐Ÿ“Œ 0

Dram 3, there's a slight hint of toasted pine nuts in the background #TheCairnDistillery

04.03.2026 19:58 ๐Ÿ‘ 5 ๐Ÿ” 0 ๐Ÿ’ฌ 0 ๐Ÿ“Œ 0

Dram 3 - 25 y/o: on the palate, Jammie Dodgers, rum chocolate truffles, tiramisu/ Lovely, velvety texture #TheCairnDistillery

04.03.2026 19:55 ๐Ÿ‘ 5 ๐Ÿ” 1 ๐Ÿ’ฌ 0 ๐Ÿ“Œ 0

For sure #TheCairnDistillery

04.03.2026 19:49 ๐Ÿ‘ 1 ๐Ÿ” 0 ๐Ÿ’ฌ 0 ๐Ÿ“Œ 0

04.03.2026 19:47 ๐Ÿ‘ 5 ๐Ÿ” 1 ๐Ÿ’ฌ 1 ๐Ÿ“Œ 0

Dram 3 - 25y/o: on the nose, Scotch pancakes with maple syrup #TheCairnDistillery

04.03.2026 19:46 ๐Ÿ‘ 4 ๐Ÿ” 1 ๐Ÿ’ฌ 0 ๐Ÿ“Œ 0

The 18 y/o is quite drying on the finish with a hint of orange marmalade #TheCairnDistillery

04.03.2026 19:37 ๐Ÿ‘ 5 ๐Ÿ” 1 ๐Ÿ’ฌ 0 ๐Ÿ“Œ 0

04.03.2026 19:27 ๐Ÿ‘ 5 ๐Ÿ” 1 ๐Ÿ’ฌ 0 ๐Ÿ“Œ 0

Dram 1: there's a chilli note on the finish making it a wee bit burny (technical term) #TheCairnDistillery

04.03.2026 19:23 ๐Ÿ‘ 5 ๐Ÿ” 0 ๐Ÿ’ฌ 0 ๐Ÿ“Œ 0

Dram 1 has notes of apple and blackberry crumble with vanilla ice cream. Actually, I reckon this would pair well with that ๐Ÿ˜Š
#TheCairnDistillery

04.03.2026 19:20 ๐Ÿ‘ 2 ๐Ÿ” 0 ๐Ÿ’ฌ 0 ๐Ÿ“Œ 0

Dram 1, on the palate, some lovely blackcurrant notes appear. Like undiluted Ribena #TheCairnDistillery
