12. A perfect song for background listening.
Moanin' - Art Blakey & the Jazz Messengers
"Background" but I'd immediately interrupt conversations to talk about Blakey's shuffle, Morgan's vibe & Timmons singing his piano solo. Then everyone would leave. π€·ββοΈπΆπ€
π€ Have recently seen the use of the phrase "the Epstein class" to describe various billionaires and other rich and powerful people who are unaccountable and are very often bad people. Think this is a useful phrase and we should all use it a lot until it becomes very mainstream... ππ #TheEpsteinClass

11. A song with a subtle meaning.
Not sure if this is subtle, but YYZ is the official IATA airport code for Toronto Pearson International Airport.
The intro is the YYZ morse code audio identifier.

This is a song about going home. π¨π¦

10. A song that feels like a memory replaying.
Manfred Mann's Earth Band
Winter '76: Spent 2 1/2 months recovering from a head injury in a low lit room w/ soft toys & a radio. This song played all the time. It takes me back to Winter '76 every time. I love it.

8. A song that feels ahead of its time.
Decendents - Silly Girl.
When I was told of a "new" genre called Pop Punk I became an old man & said "in my day we listened to Decendents & HΓΌsker DΓΌ. I had a Hosoi Alva Fish & I had to drive 200 miles to buy my Docs!"

5. A song in 7/8 time.
Chris Squire - Lucky Seven
Been listening to this record a lot lately. Just such a cool nocturnal vibe.
No coincidence that I've also been shopping around for a Rickenbacker 4001 that I absolutely don't need a lot lately too.

4. A Song In 5/4 time signature.
Nick Drake - River Man
I find this song exquisite. The fact that he recorded the guitar and vocal at the same time makes it even more so.

3. A Song Using Polyrhythm
Fela Kuti - Buy Africa
When we started dating, my wife handed me a Fela CD and told me to study Tony Allen. She said her world beat band had opened for him once. That's kinda when I knew we'd get married someday.

2. A filler song.
Paranoid by Black Sabbath
They turned in the new album titled War Pigs. The label said it was too short. Iommi came up with a riff, Butler wrote lyrics and Ozzy read them as he sang. Geezer said they wrote it in about 25 minutes.

Some couples still hold hands after 30 years together. Some still write little love notes. Others give each other lavish gifts.
My wife just sent me this link, and it's like John Cusack is in my driveway holding a boombox over his head. . .

I used it on an album I'll be releasing in a couple of months. But this is probably the best example of it and why I wanted one in the first place.

It's a round neck resonator guitar. They typically used more with bluegrass / Americana styles. Mine has a P-90 pickup installed. I like it because it increases the volume of my finger picking and I can still run it through effect pedals.

A quick shot of the iPad mount. I'm way too proud of this project. But dude, it's a 1950's freakin' phone booth!
Finished turning a 1950's phone booth into a vocal booth for the studio. Had to drive it from my wife's childhood home in Houston to Austin, open up the wall and build a closet around it. It's finally deadened, wired up and the iPad mounts works perfectly.

I miss Van Halen.
What a let down. I was really hoping that he'd form a boy band with Kevin Sorbo and Scott Baio.

Thanks so much to @wecdsend.bsky.social for a great July! GBV inspired me to pursue diy recording years ago. Now I'm making records in my backyard. Cheers to all!

In the final turn & sharing my go to faves. It's not a deep dive & probably been shared a lot. But it's just too beautiful to not include.
Some don't dig bigger production. If I didn't love it, I wouldn't listen to "Breakfast In America" all the time.
