We had come upon the nation of Stormgarde, a nation that had remained mostly neutral towards the Krale, primarily distancing itself from the conflicts of Riotion. It was self-sufficient, with an abundance of rich farmland, thriving fish markets, and peaceful communities. While I had not personally visited the kingdom in my travels, Ethgar had spoken highly of the residents, and his details drew me to compare it to the tranquility of Anthor. Shocking as it was to find a populace that hadn’t resorted to killing one another.

Silverwolf led Caoimhe, Julio, and their third on a more direct route toward the target complex. It was absolutely an old farm compound of some variety. Modern, metal construction, but there was a barn, a rusted-out conveyor to a silo (so some kind of grain?), and an office-like or possibly residential structure adjacent. About an acre around the buildings was marked off by a stereotypical, if somewhat rotten, fence. Caoimhe was all business in the field, and Silverwolf appreciated that. Caoimhe didn't even use comms. She gave quick, sharp gestures to guide her fireteam, and was keeping them one 'step' back behind Silverwolf as they moved from point to point on their approach. Julio was functional. He was doing his job, but his ego was obvious. He always stepped further than his partner, feeling like he was the leader of the pair. That partner was Horatio (no, really) Kim. Silverwolf already preferred the Korean-descent soldier to Julio. Horatio didn't twitch or hesitate. He was compensating for Julio's ego, staying attentive to Caoimhe's orders, and his weapon was always braced properly. Silverwolf especially liked that he kept his thermal scanner over the one eye aimed toward the complex whenever he could spare it. Horatio and Caoimhe were already on Silverwolf's mental list of team members she'd try to avoid killing if she had to bail on this entire thing. Useful people were so rare...

Two WIPs have "resident" and I waffled between the serious one and the cheesecake. But ultimately, I write cheesecake and this particular passage is especially "she boobily boobed along."

Rei isn't really a daydreamer. She was as a child, but that was beaten out of her, so now she can't allow herself the luxury of getting lost in thought. Even when she's in a deep ponder, she's aware of everything going on around her. Doing otherwise always meant pain. #AwesomeCharacters #writesky

Rei evolves on this issue. Earlier on, what she does is determined solely by whether she thinks the outcome is worth it. And she will bail. But as the story goes on, she sheds much of her constructed self-interest and will do what it takes. But she never goes too far. #AwesomeCharacters #writesky

It is definitely part of her skill in politics. But I wanted to humanize her because obviously, and having a shared interest with Rei is meant to show how much of the issue is not just a couple bad people but the institution.

The Praesor is actually a huge lover of art and music. She is particularly enchanted by the magical musical devices that come out of Uskon and has a vast collection. And she adores literature from all cultures, though there is an element of knowing one's enemy in it. #AwesomeCharacters #writesky

She has the bond with him. A true godmark hasn't existed in millennia. Magic users at this point have aspects, but any actual link to the gods is all-but-gone. Basically, she has a really strong aura.

Rei is not particularly unique as far as Kythenes go, with dark hair and eyes, though she is more tan than is fashionable now she lives in the stews. She keeps her thick hair too long, is too thin because she doesn't eat enough, but she is tall enough to pass for a-- 1/2 #AwesomeCharacters #writesky

I'm a happy ending kinda gal. While I acknowledge the beauty of a tragedy, there's a reason Much Ado About Nothing is my favorite Shakespeare and not Othello. The power of the latter is undeniable, but it's not comfortable. And I want at least some comfort in my stories. #AwesomeCharacters #writesky

I don't create my own languages because I want to actually get around to writing the story, but I do love etymology.

I've removed characters from a particular scene when another character served better or it undermined the MCs arc to write the scene the way I planned it. Most characters serve an important plot point that I need to keep, but I'll change character development to fit. #AwesomeCharacters #writesky
