In partnership with Rocky Point Bird Observatory, the site will serve as their headquarters and as a bird sanctuary. It borders the Galloping Goose Trail, lies near Matheson Lake and Metchosin Wilderness parks, and adjoins a proposed Tribal Park at Mary Hill.
Known as Hummingbird Hill, the site’s meadows, ponds and veteran trees provide habitat for an extraordinary range of species — from turkey vultures to hummingbirds to the tiny northern saw-whet owl — in a region widely known as the Birding Capital of Canada.
PERMANENTLY PROTECTED: A 21-hectare property along the Pacific Flyway, where millions of birds travel north and south each year, has been permanently protected by BC Parks Foundation. 🦉🦅
BC Parks Foundation was happy to contribute $200,000 toward this acquisition, recognizing how important parks and natural spaces are for the well-being of people and wildlife. This support was made possible alongside contributions from Columbia Basin Trust and the RDCK.
The newly protected property sits in a peaceful, tree-lined stretch of the valley where people have gathered for generations. Securing it ensures that the community can once again spend time in nature.

Protecting Prideaux Haven secures a rare piece of our natural heritage in one of BC’s most dramatic coastal regions. On these 100 acres in the heart of Desolation Sound, coastal forests, nearly a kilometre of shoreline, and nesting habitat for the threatened marbled murrelet will stay safe, forever.
