tumblr ask: Your medieval building backgrounds are so detailed and rich! Do you have any advice on tackling backgrounds like these for a semi-beginner? my answer: thank you! I use a lot lot lot of reference photos. there’s so much interesting visual detail to be borrowed from in old artwork and architecture. and I also use any shortcut/hackery I can lol. Perspective tools/collages/3D models… Anything that will make the process as easy as possible so I can focus on the character of the location + mood/atmosphere 🙂↕️ honestly though finding a way to make the process “not suck” has been most important for me. this stuff used to be like pulling teeth lmao but once I leaned into making it easier on myself, and found what I liked about it, things really changed. and now working on environments is one of my favorite parts. So I’d say you should find a way to make sure you’re enjoying it!
