It was @scottlarabee.bsky.social's brilliant idea to make it easier for the players AND judges in the Pro Tours. Being able to see what a token is/does and if it's tapped, without running around to find a needed token, makes things run more smoothly (and as the OP says, more fair).
It's why Wizards gives every player in the Pro Tour a 10-pack of InfiniTokens! For the streamed games they have assistants to grab the right tokens, but for everyone else they give InfiniTokens to cover all of their token needs. It makes everyones' lives easier.
We've got your back! It gets impossible to remember what that die is, whether that face-down card is a token or one of the many different creatures face-down cards can be now (does it have Ward 2? Is it an artifact?) Dice can't be tapped. If you have "copy" tokens out, what are they copies of?
(With the exception of this past Pro Tour, due to a shipment being lost in the aether until after the tournament)
