@daniel One single entity. But that's just semantics, the point stands.

[Iran war]
> The Washington Post reports that “as planning for a potential strike in Iran was underway, Maven, powered by Claude, suggested hundreds of targets, issued precise location coordinates, and prioritized those targets according to importance.” Given that the Iranian elementary school […]
The Federal Republic of Germany is finally offering a legally compliant alternative to Claude now:

When I was standing in front of this terrarium, it took me quite a while to find that little guy with its perfect camouflage.
I've built something new for the #fediverse and it's #opensource. If your website has an #RSS feed and you'd like to bring its content to a new audience well now it's easy without changing any code and you can do it with #selfhosting
Introducing "Feediverse": https://feediverse.squarecows.com […]
@wake.st Yeah, I can give you an invite, but I think I can't DM you over the Bluesky bridge?
I'll use Nostr to finally solve decentralize place reviews (with WoT, zap rewards for reviews, etc.)
Maps are hard. But my unhosted GMaps alternative has full-text search now:

(It's still early days, so please excuse the state of the current settings dialog and the lack of user guidance. May contain bugs, too.)
TL;DR: You still can't easily install WebAPKs on de-googled Android phones or from browsers other than Chrome, so your Web apps can't use essential features like e.g. being integrated into the system's share dialog as a share target.
Google broke promises again. Quelle surprise!

Linux 7.0: "Rust is here to stay."
Idiot me didn't realize they only introduced SSH signing in Git 2.34 and we're still running older Ubuntu versions on some VMs. 🤦♂️
When I tried to set up @gitea server-side commit signing (for merges in the Web UI etc.) with GPG last time, it didn't work when I configured everything as documented. Then SSH signing was announced for 1.25.0, so after upgrading today, I tried the SSH signing instead. Again not working with the […]

One of those years, I may finally make it to FOSDEM again. This is not one of those years.
The initial version is focused on saving places you already know (or are currently at), while search/discovery of new places is on the roadmap for future releases.
It's a bit rough around the edges, but I already spent quite some time on polishing details. Turns out, making your own Google Maps isn't exactly trivial. But it's amazing what you can do within two weeks these days. Overall, I'm happy with the initial result, and already using it for myself.
I just published my @hackerbeach project for this year: Marco, an unhosted maps app.

Today #OpenStreetMap received an incredibly generous 2 BTC #Bitcoin donation - Thank you so much! ₿❤️🙏
Around this time last year, a 1 BTC gift made a real difference in keeping our servers and services running. 2026 looks extremely challenging with rapidly rising hardware costs.
If you'd like […]
@zenbrowser Quick question: Is there a way to scale the whole UI/chrome, not just web content? 🤔
The space controls on the bottom are especially tiny on my screen resolution.
I could see myself switching to Zen browser at some point:
https://zen-browser.app
It would take some effort, and there might be a couple of missing features for me still. But there are a lot of good ideas realized in that UI already.
For its 4.0.0 release, the #Ruby :ruby: programming language got a fantastic new website:

I created my first Ruby on Rails app about 20 years ago, based on Rails 1 at the time. A couple years later, I signed up for a little Rails-based website called GitHub as one of […]

Stumbled upon https://moondream.ai and at first glance, it seems like a viable option for self-hosted #AI image captioning, e.g. for posting media on the fediverse.
However, the current model's preview is still Early Access and requires a Hugging Face login.
