In case you forgot that you creativity can empower you
In case you forgot that you creativity can empower you
In case youβd like to listen to me and Gary Red Oak OβNeil, a Wangunk elder, potter and educator talk about the power of craft, we were both guests on the show Disrupted:

What is bringing in softness in your life right now amidst all the everything?
In case you donβt know, knitting (and craft in general) has a long history. Find out more (and hear from me and others!) here: www.teenvogue.com/story/how-kn...
What an amazing quilt!
I research how creatives tell stories and history through textiles and I am so happy to learn about your motherβs work, thanks so much for sharing.
(I just looked up and watched her PBS interview β what an incredibly talented mom you have!)
Colorful quilt of a nighttime scene with Harriet Tubman in an orange jacket and purple dress carrying a rifle. She is leading other figures who walk behind her.
Harriet Tubman #quilt by my Mom, Vera P. Hall, who makes quilts celebrating Black people who fought for their own freedom. This seems to be the crowd favorite of the βWe Didnβt Wait for Freedomβ series. Happy #Juneteenth #quilting
The words your craft can be a form of resistance have been stitched in orange thread on blue-and-white fabric
A reminder that craft has been used for centuries to tell stories, share big feelings, highlight injustice and more.
In the making, we can show ourselves and others weβre not alone in our anger, our grief, our overwhelm. β€οΈ
Liking your post not for the rulingβs sake, but for the support Iβve seen rippling outward β€οΈ
In case youβre navigating tariffs as a small biz, know that youβre not alone!
Cheers Kim! And, oof, so much change in so many industries!!
Agreed, and the more we amplify what Booker is doing, the more we make it matter, in public perception and as an example to other elected officials. On the other hand, the more we disparage and tear it down, the more we make it not matter. It's not all up to him.
The words keep making through the chaos have been spelled out in wooden block letters. A small vintage cut-and-sew frog is to the left

What about knitting? (Or sewing!)
And stitching embroidered pieces together in brick shape and filling them with scraps?
Sharing in case you too would like to chuck 8,000 squishy bricks at sturdy walls right now. (Or maybe hug them real hard instead?)
*Immediately buys yarn to knit one million bricks*
This obsession with more, more, more, more?
It usually comes at a price.
And feeling like Iβm enough, my work is enough, Iβm improving? Thatβs enough for me.
And maybe just maybe itβs where you want to be too.
Maybe itβs the maker, the DIYer, the GenXer, the punk kid in me, but I donβt always want to be striving for more, more, more, more or to tell you to do that either.
I just want to help make it all easier. I want you to enjoy your life *and* your business. And have time for both.
Thinking about keeping track of all the people I see shouting that they have the one perfect thing to sell me thatβs better than all the others.
Because in my own business I donβt have the one perfect thing to sell you.
I do have ideas on how you can streamline and make your marketing easier.
The letters for the phrase βThe world needs your creativityβ have been cut out of white paper and lay on a brown table
Today in playing with letters
Iβve been thinking a lot about kindness and anger lately.
How you can be kind and angry. Angry and kind.
How anger is a fulcrum.
And how important kindness (to community, to loved ones) is to holding on to your sense of self* too.
How it keeps us going, caring and whole.
* And self worth
On #internationalwomenβsday itβs clear our rights are in jeopardy. Highly recommend Shannonβs book as a framework for action. Holding on to the needles will get me through in tandem with resistance, always. Yarn by @woolensandnosh.bsky.social π§Ά #knitsky #craftivism @badasscrossstitch.bsky.social
Trying to balance being informed and being creative and doing work and being present with loved ones and looking forward and downtime and not just screaming into the void?
Itβs usually a lot.
Recently, itβs a lot a lot.
I have no tips or course to sell you. But I can tell you youβre not alone.
So cool! (And so cute!!) π
May those archivists have fast fingers and be one step ahead!
Ugh, I had the feeling that was the case, but was so hoping I was wrong.
I couldnβt sleep last night thinking about what deletion (vs. archiving) all this important information does.
Some people and their stories will be lost forever.
Is someone capturing the sites anywhere so the pages can eventually be restored?
I feel this in my bones
What a gorgeous quote! Thanks so much for sharing it with me, that book is so beautiful and evergreen!
When it comes to creativity, Iβm hearing a lot of βif not now, when?β lately.
Due to age, due to frustration, due to doomscrolling, etc., etc.
So in case you need someone to say βstart now,β
You can start now.
