This is exactly why I grew to dislike the Power Ranking culture in the Smash scene, both in its impact on my own mentality about the game and competing and the way I see it affect others. Wanting quantifiable proof of your growth is understandable but it ends up almost always being toxic.

I've been a huge proponent of the idea that ranked leaderboards should be abolished entirely in favor of hidden MMR SBMM, where you are simply matched up against the mathematically closest skilled opponent with a stable connection for a set of unlimited duration.

Ranked only teaches wrong lessons.
