A photo from behind of someone's laptop screen, displaying TJStats.com. Beyond them is the UCLA logo behind home plate.

It is creepy and weird to post a photo of someone on social media so I have saved this until after the game. It's still weird, but maybe a bit less creepy.

Kade Anderson measures up The fastball fast-track

CONTROVERSY- Well, maybe just dissonance. Kade Anderson's vaunted fastball looks a bit disappointing in Spring Training. It's neither fast, nor shapely. That doesn't mean it can't still be highly effective.

On the Anderson hype train moving through camp, for @lookoutlanding.bsky.social

Post image Phil Freeman: It didn't swing, the solos weren't even a little bit heroic, and it had electric guitars... But though In a Silent Way wasn't exactly jazz, it certainly wasn't rock. It was the sound of Miles Davis and Teo Macero feeling their way down an unlit hall at three in the morning. It was the soundtrack to all the whispered conversations every creative artist has, all the time, with that doubting, taunting voice that lives in the back of your head, the one asking all the unanswerable questions."

In A Silent Way is my favorite Miles Davis record, which is slightly controversial (lots to choose from). But I think this description from Phil Freeman sums it up well.

Not to say I'm not incredibly optimistic about Anderson. Or that his stuff is defined by two abbreviated Spring Training outings. But expectation setting with the Mariners is always difficult. Everybody is enlightened in March.

Tough to make sense of Anderson. The org is heavily implying he's ready to go, the beat writers are letting them push that narrative, and it's hard to know whether there's something less measurable about him, or if that's just talk talk from the talk talkers.

Can someone explain why Kade Anderson's fastball is so well regarded? It appears neither fast nor shapely, but I'm out of my lane here.

Kinda hilarious that the Brendan Donovan trade got accelerated along finally because Dave Cameron texted Jeff Sullivan to let him know than Ben Williamson was available.

One note about Brennen Davis is his pull-air rate in AAA last year was 37.3%, which was the top mark in the minors. The contact quality is tremendous, as evidenced by today's EV.

"Just" a matter of 1) staying healthy, 2) developing any sort of approach.

Original sketch, World Baseball Classic logo, 2005. Everything starts with something, somewhere, somehow. Back then you got a sense of what the event's potential could be, but you had to squint a little bit and project forward, far into the future.
