BCP council tax rise above national cap Council tax in Bournemouth, Christchurch and Poole is increasing by more than the usual national limit. The council has approved a rise of six point seven four percent for the twenty twenty six to twenty twenty seven financial year. Only seven authorities in England have been given permission by the government to increase council tax above four point nine nine percent without a referendum. The council says the additional increase will help support essential services.

£6m sanction following Poole oil spill More than six million pounds will be spent putting right environmental damage caused by a major oil spill in Poole Harbour, paid for by the company responsible for the damage. The Environment Agency confirmed the package today after a leak from a pipeline in twenty twenty three by Perenco UK Limited. The money covers the clean up, compensation for affected businesses and support for wildlife and harbour projects. Funding will now help conservation work, improve access to the harbour and support local environmental groups.

Fancy being part of a Poole pantomime? Young dancers and professional performers are being invited to audition for this year’s Lighthouse Poole pantomime, Jack and the Beanstalk. The open call follows last year's production of Dick Whittington being nominated for Best Panto at the UK Pantomime Awards. Lighthouse is looking for four young dancers aged sixteen to nineteen and four professional ensemble performers. Auditions take place on Thursday the sixteenth of April, with registration closing on Thursday the ninth of April.

County lines gang jailed after Dorset probe Three men have been jailed after an investigation into a county lines drug operation linked to Bournemouth. Detectives say the group was supplying crack cocaine and heroin across Dorset as well as London and Scotland. About seven thousand pounds worth of class A drugs were seized during the investigation. The men were sentenced at Bournemouth Crown Court earlier this month.

Coast photography exhibition set for Poole An outdoor photography exhibition exploring life on England’s coastline is coming to Poole town centre. England-on-Sea by photographer Brent Jones will be displayed across Falkland Square and Kingland from the seventeenth of March until the fourteenth of June. Witness appeal after Bournemouth crash Police are appealing for witnesses after a collision at Cemetery Junction in Bournemouth. The crash between a blue Toyota Aygo and a grey Ford Kuga happened on Tuesday evening. Officers say the driver of the Toyota left the scene on foot and are asking the person to come forward. A man in his thirties from Poole was arrested on suspicion of driving offences and has been released while enquiries continue.

SEND school expansion approved in Bournemouth Plans have been approved to expand specialist school places for children with special educational needs in Bournemouth. The former Parkfield School site will become a satellite campus for Linwood School, creating space for up to two hundred and sixteen pupils. The changes create a larger home fan zone where supporters can watch the game in a controlled area away from visiting fans. New Jekyll and Hyde stage show for Bournemouth A new theatre production is coming to Bournemouth with a fresh take on the classic Jekyll and Hyde story. Arts University Bournemouth students will perform the adaptation at the Palace Court Theatre from the nineteenth to the twenty first of March. The version places women at the centre of the Victorian thriller and introduces a female doctor investigating the mystery. KT Tunstall set for special Poole gig Singer songwriter KT Tunstall will perform at Lighthouse Poole this June as part of special anniversary shows. The Scottish artist first rose to fame after a breakthrough performance on Later with Jools Holland in two thousand and four. Her debut album Eye to the Telescope produced hits including Black Horse and the Cherry Tree and Suddenly I See. The Concert Hall show marks more than two decades since that album helped launch her international career.

The group from South West Regional Assessment Centre took part in a guided tour while studying transport as their topic for the month. CCTV appeal after bus incident in Poole Police are appealing for help after a teenage girl was sexually assaulted on a bus in Poole. The incident happened on the number eight More Bus in the Hamworthy area on the evening of Sunday the twenty fifth of January. Officers say a man approached the girl and kissed her on the cheek without her consent before returning to his seat. CCTV images of a man officers want to identify have now been released, and anyone with information is asked to contact Dorset Police.

Council backs ten year specialist housing strategy BCP Council has approved a ten year strategy to improve specialist and supported housing across Bournemouth, Christchurch and Poole. The plan aims to increase good quality accessible homes and help people with additional needs live more independently. Councillor Kieron Wilson said thousands of residents rely on supported housing including older people, adults with disabilities and young people leaving care. Councillor David Brown said changing demographics mean the need for specialist housing will continue to grow. Cabinet members unanimously supported the strategy.

CCTV appeal after woman inappropriately touched Police in Bournemouth are appealing for help after a woman was inappropriately touched at a venue in Wimborne Road. The incident happened on Friday twenty seventh of February when a woman in her twenties was reportedly touched over her clothing by a man inside Buffalo. Officers have released a CCTV image of a man they want to identify as part of their enquiries. Police Constable Aimee Holland says officers are doing all they can to find the person responsible and are asking anyone who recognises the man to come forward. Anyone with information is asked to contact Dorset Police quoting the occurrence number.

Bournemouth Rugby unveils rewards scheme Bournemouth Rugby has launched a new rewards platform designed to help supporters save money while supporting the club. The Lions Rewards Diamond Club app offers cashback, vouchers and discounts with local businesses and major retailers. Thirty percent of membership income and cashback earned by users will be returned to the club to fund facilities, youth programmes and community work. Cherries managers share leadership at BU AFC Bournemouth’s men’s and women’s managers visited Bournemouth University to talk about leadership in sport last week. Andoni Iraola and Helen Bleazard spoke to students, staff and members of the public at the university’s Talbot Campus. They shared lessons from their careers, including adapting to new environments and supporting players on and off the pitch. The event launched a new leadership lecture series led by the university’s Vice-Chancellor. Professor Alison Honour said the aim is to build “a culture of continuous leadership learning” for students, staff and visitors while AFC Bournemouth Commercial Director Rob Mitchell said the event allowed both managers to share insights from their careers. More talks are planned later this year.

Bournemouth firms raise concerns with minister Business owners in Bournemouth town centre have shared their concerns directly with the UK’s Small Business Minister during a roundtable organised by Bournemouth Town Centre Bid. Around twenty five local firms met the minister and Bournemouth West MP to discuss issues affecting businesses.
